Title: 500 pounder killed in NC
Post by: bmc4me on March 10, 2014, 11:06:07 am
Under starry skies on Feb. 28, Jett Webb of Conetoe ensured there will be one less mouth to feed in the Indian Woods section of Bertie County – and a real big mouth, too. Webb took down a massive wild boar that bottomed out a set of scales certified to 500 pounds that’s used for weighing tobacco bales.

Well I guess I am going to beleive the story until proven otherwise.  I've never seen a 500 lb wild hog, I guess that is until now.  I know how to make a hog look bigger in pictures than what it really is and I dont know for sure that hog is 500 lbs, but if he is, thats a big one.

Looks like 275 lbs and fancy photo tricks. I have seen 500 pound Euro boars pen raised and they had fat bulging out of every place that could store fat.

Wish there was a picture of that gun in his hands laid in front of or up against that hog for a little size reference, not sayin it ain't a 500lb hog but I am sayin that there's no way to know without something for a size reference other than a fella sittin behind the hog, how does anyone know if he is 6" or 6' behind the hog in the pic? big hog none the less.

read the article and the man that shot him told the paper it was 500lbs.  Why isn't there a pic of the scale with the hog on it?  Im gonna call BS on this one.  Good hog but hes not 500.

My BS meter is going crazy.  not because of anything I know about hogs, but the picture itself looks really fake

Its a neat trick to make him look that big for sure, even neater how the dead animal is holding his head up so high with no support under it.

When I first read this (this morning) I was at work and didn't study the pic very well.  After zooming in and out and looking at shadows, what stands out to me is the clarity of the pixels of the hog and the clarity of the guys face.  They don't look the same to me.  I too would like to have seen the hog on a scale.  Most hunters that are that proud, and had it weighed on a scale, would have taken that pic also.

Justin that's an AR platform and in the news report link attached to this post it says shot with a .308, so it has to be an AR10.  Even with a fixed stock and a 24 inch barrel (which almost no one has, and this one sure isn't a 24inch, look at the hand guard to barrel difference) that gun would look tinier than it does in the picture.

On top of the barrel length, that aint no ar-10. The polymer mag is a 30rd .556, plus the upper recvr aint big enuf to b an ar-10 platform.

I'm going with it's a fake. Look at the tree above his back hip and then look at the tree above his tusk. How far is it between those two trees compared to how wide that guys shoulders are. Just saying.

Well fella's it don't matter if that hog is 5lbs or 5000 lol, those fella's accomplished what they wanted to and got their names out spread far and wide........other seasoned hog hunters can and will call bs left and right BUT all the yuppies and uneducated folk will fall right into this and have no idea that the ol boar hog wasn't near the weight that they were told...........I'd almost bet that they end up getting more land to hunt because all the folks that have hogs and don't know/care to mess with em will be callin the man who killed the "monster hog" to come help them out as well..............win win for him lol, I doubt he was worried much about other hunters callin BS, if he was we woulda never even seen these pics, as they say, no publicity is the only bad publicity.  ;)

Im not so sure about this yet.  I have a Video and picture editing department with computer graphic illustrators that I work with.  I'm sending them the link and I'm going to see if they can tell me more and or prove anything about the pic.  I wouldnt mind being the person that send a reply to the article telling them it is a fake.  If you look at the bottom of the article on the site provided, many people have already commented.  Im waiting for info to come back from my video folks before I comment.

If i killed anything i thought would be questioned, i would have references in the photo so it would be more apparent his size, or a video actually measuring and weighing him. Regardless, he's a hoss, also, guess he must've shot him on the other side cuz i'm not seeing a wound of any type

Agreed on shot placement being on the other side, but if it was a 7.62 there would hav been an exit wound.

Even as big as that hog is, i woulda thought there'd be an exit wound with a 308.  I had to look twice, but there's a stump up under his jaw. And that squirrel is gonna make a potful of dumplins! WOOwhee!

I've killed a quite few big hogs using a boat tail hollow point .308 and dug the bullet out of em when I skinned em. I don't think the picture is legit but not because I don't see an exit wound.

Title: Re: 500 pounder killed in NC
Post by: charles on March 11, 2014, 08:29:17 pm
Nobody said the pic is fake only on the basis of no exit hole. There has been several other thoughts as to why its fake. Iv used 168gr blackhills n it made a pass through, at 100yds on a 200lb hog. Iv also got a pass through with 180gr btsp.

I saw the news video.  Still not persuaded it is that large.  In the vid the guy who owns the land said it was 8' long and filled up the bed of a truck.  Hmmmm.  They didn't show any picture of it with a tape measure  ...  or a picture of it in the bed of that truck ... and damn sure a picture of the hog on the scales and a close up of the scale.

The only pictures they show are the 2 or 3 shot in the woods.

Most people would have lots of pictures.  Especially if it was actually that large.

With this sketchy amount of documentation  ...  I think it is "over-stated".

Thought the same thing about the pictures.  Cant judge the size in any of them.
Also, find it odd they mentioned the 800lb "hogzilla" and that this wasn't his first "big boar" that his "similar sized" pig is mounted. No weight or pictures. Didn't forget the important details that he used an AR at 50 yds....

all bull aside 4 years ago a buddy of mine killed a 662 sow he called me and said he bottomed the scale out a 500 at the shimp factory down the road from where he killed it I called him a liar.  so I met him at the CAT scales and all bullnumber 2 certified cat scales 662.  I text him when I looked at this to see if he will send me a picture.  she was black but she had some floppy ears but there is not any hogs for 50 miles it was killed in the marsh

The part I liked on yahoo was the part that he wasn't gonna mount this one because he was gonna eat the whole thing. Feed his family for a year he said.

I wonder how many pounds of cracklings this dude is gonna make. I also wonder what hog skull taste like. I bet it's chicken.
