Title: TEAM COLD HATE: Trifecta
Post by: Texas_Cur on August 31, 2009, 08:52:43 am
After a long summer spent chasing hogs in thick rose hedge, the hogs have finally started to make it easy on us and the dogs.

We invited Aaron, Courtney, and Aaron's sister Crystal down to Brazoria county for a night hunt.  We cut the dogs loose at around 1am with the intent on hitting some thick woods before we lost permission to hunt there because of deer season. They brought Tank (bay dog) and Jag (catch dog), and we had Peachez, Reggie, Sam and McLovin on the ground.  From where we parked the trucks, we had about a mile run thru a cut milo field along a bayou to the woods.  We only had one atv so we piled on and decided to drive real slow with the catch dogs jogging next to us.  When we got to the other end we were going to let the CD’s cool off in the bayou before starting the hunt but we never made it that far.  About half way across the field we noticed the CD’s take off so we looked up and see all of the bay dogs (actually all we could see were the glow sticks on their collars)going up the other side of the bayou and hit the field at full speed.  We shut down the atv, quickly heard the bay start, and about 5 seconds later Jag and McLovin (the lead in catch dogs turned running catch dogs) got there and the squealing started.  At about that time, in the moonlight we could barely see a couple of hogs cross the bayou back to our side.  At about that time we could see Reggie’s glow stick break away from the caught hog and made a bee line for this little group.  He was on them in no time, gave out a couple of barks and caught out about 200 yds in front of us.  We stuck his pig (an 80-100lb boar) and made our way to Aaron and the other dogs.  Aaron stuck that boar and we guessed it in the 180lb range with 2” teeth.  Sam took a decent cut so we put him up and went to the woods hoping we could find the rest of the group.  The dogs hunted good, stayed busy and rolled out a few times with nothing to show for it.  After a couple hrs we made it back to the cut milo field and decided to work a dry creek bed just to the south of it.  Peachez and Tank rolled out about 500 yards into the middle of the cut milo field.  Peachez opened up followed up quickly by Tank and the chase was on.  Reggie came out from the creek bed and put it in 5th gear.  As soon as he got there the running was over.  They settled in for a bit and we cut the CD’s loose.  They caught about a 120lb sow.  Great hunt!

Looks like a good hunt. Those type of boars are the worst.(Agile + Teeth = bad combination... ;D) From the looks of the video though, the dogs shut em down. Good hunt. ;)

This was a great hunt. Thanks for the invite. Hopefully we can get some more good video in the daylight when it starts to cool off. It would have been awesome to see this all in the light, but I couldnt have asked for a better hunt.

Richard,
Sounds like a great hunt and your Catdo is doing better each time.  Wish it would have been daylight, Courtney makes some good video.

Let the dogs pose with the hog and take a picture.
Thanks for letting me know.

Bryant,
I checked Sam's collar after the hunt.  His hunt only lasted .81 miles, including a 4wheeler ride back to the truck.
