It's just like any cut or sore... Just need time. Title: Re: Post by: Peachcreek on March 19, 2014, 09:42:48 pm Lay em up for a week and then hunt the crap out of em.. the more you hunt the tougher their feet are.

Eventually they will toughen up and you won't have the problem
Title: Re: Worn out paw pads Post by: Nannyslayer on March 21, 2014, 09:46:29 pm Back in our field trial days, we would rub cooking oil on our dogs pads before we ran them, (short runs or quick hunts) and that seemed to toughen up their feet the quickest. Some of our hounds would run a coyote all day long, and be ready to go in 2 days (next day they were a bit stiff).

Title: Re: Worn out paw pads Post by: halfbreed on March 22, 2014, 08:30:13 am if you haven't used tuff foot or mushers cream , you'll be amazed at the results . but a dog sitting in the kennel for days on ends feet will never toughen up .
Title: Re: Worn out paw pads Post by: boarhog1 on March 23, 2014, 05:14:48 pm Put some Turpentine on. Toughens them up. Will burn for a little bit but they'll be ready next morning.

Some feed stores will carry it in equine section. If it gets real wet I use it a couple of days before a big hunt.
