Title: Blue it or leave it natural ?
Post by: Lance on March 21, 2014, 10:13:03 pm
I made this bit special for one of mine who has decided that he only stops when he wants to. That's what kids do to a good horse. 4 or 5 rides with it and I should be able to go back to a low port. I can't decide wether to blue it or leave it natural for a rusty patina . What do y'all think.

Awesome job. I kinda like the natural look but either way will look great. How do you blue them?

Just wondering if you have a salt pot for blueing? I used to temper handmade pry bars in a molten salt pot years ago. It left a nice blueing on them. I would blue them just because you can.

Nice work.
That horse doesn't have a mouth at all if you can't stop him with that bit.

Nice work.
That horse doesn't have a mouth at all if you can't stop him with that bit.

He's always had a really good mouth and would stop with just  a bump on the reins or a squeeze of your legs. But between my kids and my friends kids he has gotten away with a lot that he shouldn't. He just needs a reminder of what whoa means. It'll make him stop or pass out and an unconscious horse can't run off with you !
