it comes in different brands and the active ingredient is Imidacloprid...0ne is .75% and others are 1.5%...

I use the 1.5 at 15 cc's per 40-60 pound dog...works great...I use it once or twice a year as needed...some around the belly area and some down the back line and rub it in to the skin...

Ya I was at work when I told u witch one and couldn't remember but I us the same one as Reuben

The reason I put it on the belly and rub it in cuz there no hair to slow it down from soaking in to there blood

And I us it when I see fleas now last year my fleas got use to it or somthing it stoped working

I used to use Admire. It is a tobacco pesticide. They took it off the market. I found it's generic brand. I put 1-2 cc's down the back. It will kill every flea on the place. When I get home I will look up the active ingredient.

I have heard a few guys talk about the fleas getting immune to the treatment and they might be right...I have 2 theories on that...

1...not using enough insecticide on dogs or not doing it often enough or both..

2...when dogs are one the ground it is harder to control fleas, ticks and worms, so that could be the main reason...or possibly a combination of both reasons...

my dogs are on concrete and 1 32 oz bottle has lasted me about 3 years and it still is almost half full...

I was told that the manufacture stopped using the main ingredient that kills fleas cause of us dog people. I haven't used it in about two years cause it stopped working.

Reuben mine are on concrete and I can bet u the world that when it comes to fleas on my dogs I go crazy I hate to watch a dog in the woods run ten feet scratch his NUTTZ then go 50 yards and do the same over and over can't stand a owner that don't change there water clean there pens every day and I don't know what the heck has changed but when I first used it it freakin killed every flea that even thought about biting them and now it seems like there is always that 1-5 that can do what ever a flea dose and nothen bothers them and I can go
Get Adams flea spray and kill the number 2 out the for a few months and same thing happens there but hell maybe it's just cuz I'm anal about fleas so I see little stuff idk

Permethrin 10 mixed with mineral oil
1/20 ratio    perm 10 being the 1 and mineral oil being 20

Look it up, the military uses it

enforcer from TSC and other places...works great...I haven't had to use it in a long while but it works...my rule of thumb...if it can be used in the house I will spray my dogs with it and their favorite hang outs including the dog houses...

You can mix permethrin with water but mineral oil is thick so it lasts on the dogs longer than water based sprays.

I might pick this up. I do have toddlers in the house....did you use this product with kids in the household? That would be my only concern, because they do tend to lay/crawl/play on the carpet a lot....

Okay great, I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the input! I used to sprinkle Borax powder down but I think it's good to switch things up every now and again.

So does the Bayer Tree and Shrub no longer have the correct active ingredient, I can't find it on Bayers site, the active ingredient list. I see other websites talking about it but they are older posts.

You guys are all awesome by the way.  Would have never known that I don't need to spend $70 for a 3 month supply of Advantix.

Found answer after better googling.  Guess I'll be going to home depot at lunch.

I finally found one label on Bayer site.  Looks like one of them (the 12 month one) had a higher (almost 3%) dosage but it's still the Imidacloprid.

(http://i809.photobucket.com/albums/zz20/phillipatomus/Imidacloprid--Bayer.jpg) (http://s809.photobucket.com/user/phillipatomus/media/Imidacloprid--Bayer.jpg.html)

Bayer Advantage II For Dogs has same ingredients as stated by other posters:
Imidacloprid; 1-[6-Chloro-3-pyrindinyl) methyl]-N-nitro-2-imidazolidinimine 9.1%
Pyriproxyfen IGR (Insect Growth Regulator) 0.46%
Other ingredients 90.44%

Any people good at math that can calculate CC's per lb at different dosage strengths.  By brain is not working.

Found FDS study on Imidacloprid
http://www.fda.gov/downloads/AnimalVeterinary/Products/ApprovedAnimalDrugProducts/FOIADrugSummaries/UCM051438.pdf

Looks like recommended dosage at 10% is 4.5mg/lb
At the 10% Imidacloprid used in study there was 100mg/ml(cc)

If my math is right that's 15mg/cc at 1.5% and 30mg/cc at 3% strength.

Which if recommended dosage is 4.5mg per lb then you would just take, as Rueben pointed out in his example, approximately 3.33 cc's per 10lb dog weight at 1.5% strength or a little more than 1.5cc's per 10lb dog weight at 3% mixture.

That make sense.  I have a 95lb dog right now and a 50lb one.  Trying to make sure I don't mess something up.

If it is 3 percent then 40-60 pound dog needs 7.5 cc's

I have quite a few jugs of some old cattle pour on called Lysoff I found in a barn on some property we ran cows on. Paw in law said it was some sure Nuff good stuff back in the day and it got taken off the market yrs ago. I dumped a jug if that, the strongest bottle of permethrin  I could find, a bottle of fungicide , and two of the biggest bottles of baby oil I could find in a drum and filled the rest with water and haven't had a flea on a dog since last spring. I believe the key to it is once you have them under control to keep the ball in your court and stay on top of it and you don't have a problem.
