Title: Before a storm or after
Post by: mdj Hoggers on April 14, 2014, 03:34:31 pm
I've always thought about this if it's better to hunt after it rain yes it would wash away old tracks and scent and always been told a wet hog scents stronger than a dry hog same as coon hunting but then again always heard everything move harder before a good storm to get ready for it just something to talk about since I'm not hunting cuz it's pouring

I like to hunt after a good rain.  Sign is the freshest then, and scent is great for the dogs.

If I'm deer hunting, I hunt before a storm ( no dogs, just tree stands).

Any time spent in the woods is better than time spent indoors. But if I was going to pick I like to hunt after a rain the best

I like to cruise around and find a big track after a rain and turn loose on it

Yea always after the rain is when I like to go ride and look for big tracks atleast wait about two hours and then start riding you can pretty much pick the hog you would like to catch

I like to start putting dogs on the ground right before and while it is raining.. I have some spots that seems like hogs bay better durning the rain ..    After and during a light rain track hunting is a blast to test your young dogs.

I would think before and after would both work.

I believe changes in the barometric pressure prior to a storm coming in can cause the hogs to get up and move more. I also believe that it's easier for the dogs to take a track after it rains because all of the other scent is washed away. To me, it's not about whether it's better to hunt before or after a storm, but about changing your strategy to suite the different situations.
