Title: Garmin question
Post by: Purebreedcolt on April 20, 2014, 08:53:18 am
Went huntin friday and south was north and north was south.  If the dogs were north the garmin showed them to be south the compass was right but but the arrows in the direction of the dogs were wrong.  I calibrated the compass more than once to no help

Mine has been doing that the past few hunts. And if I stand still a moment the compass just starts spinning slow. I thought first it was the cell and tv towers I was hunt by but did it other place too. I started just using the Map and played connect the dots with me to the dog haha walked a few circles lol

Ive never had that happen before but have been having other problems with mine and a lot of people are having problems with them. I started back putting telemetry collars on my main dogs and garmins just because the telemetry systems are reliable they are aggravating compared to the garmins but won't let you down at the end of the day.

I hand had that happen but my map always showed true. If I am in doubt I go to the map screen and put cursor on dog and then see what direction is shown at the top of the screen. Then go to tools and pull up the actual compass to check the direction I need to go. There is one place we hunt that has a guy that runs a ham radio and it messes with the Garmin.

If I'm in doubt I always keep a compass in my bag or I pull out the compass on my iPhone

Why dont you try to configure your compass? Mine did that when i first got it , but once i configured the compass that ended that issue.
