Title: Re: update on my dogo pup Post by: Shotgun wg on May 05, 2014, 07:06:00 pm Glad he turned on. Good to know he is finding as well as catching. That is what they are intended to do. Sounds like urs may be one of the few to live up to the standard.
Send me the pics I will post them. Shotgun Arkansas Title: Re: update on my dogo pup Post by: Shotgun wg on May 05, 2014, 07:33:24 pm (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/06/e4e9egu6.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/06/zesa2yqe.jpg)

Title: Re: update on my dogo pup Post by: colecross on May 05, 2014, 11:32:05 pm Yes when he finds he bays,if the hog lets him,if hog fights he is going to catch beat all i ever heard to hear him bay.ive had him in hogs since he was 3 months old,and he will be 2 aug.his tracking abilty isnt the best but his winding is very good, smart.

I know they were intended to hunt/catch as a pack Title: Re: update on my dogo pup Post by: dodgegirl on May 08, 2014, 09:35:14 pm Glad he turned on. Good to know he is finding as well as catching. Title: Re: update on my dogo pup Post by: Crossstock on May 09, 2014, 09:34:46 am Hell as long as he is putting pork on the table and you are happy with him and the way he hunts then it doesn't matter what the standered says...
Title: Re: update on my dogo pup Post by: colecross on May 09, 2014, 10:37:07 am I can say this i dont care bout standered,if u send him to a bay he catches,if he is out hunting and finds a hog and the hog will bay,he will bay till other dogs get there,he is special,he waits on me then he catches, like 23 this yr ,i c a hog dog.
Title: Re: update on my dogo pup Post by: dodgegirl on May 09, 2014, 12:12:37 pm And that's all that matters sir! As long as he works the way you like.

Title: Re: update on my dogo pup Post by: colecross on May 09, 2014, 03:17:00 pm He fits me,and we catch our share of hogs.he dosent have to be accepted by nobody, but me.i bought him,i raised him,i trained him,he will live his life here,if he was a cull he would be in the ground.

If the intent of the breed upon creation and refinement was for it to be straight catch on it's intended game/quarry. Should a representative of that breed that does not function in that manner, be considered a cull? If it is not to be considered a cull, does it do the particular breed a diservice to allow said specimens to be called by that particular breed name? If these specimens are allowed to reproduce and those undesirable traits get passed on to the offspring and offsprings offspring on down the line...at what point should it be considered a different breed? Or, should it ever be considered a different breed?Title: Re: update on my dogo pup Post by: colecross on May 09, 2014, 07:56:46 pm I see this everytime a dogo is brought up,i guess some just dont understand, because he bays some- is he a cull.i guess every man his own,i hunt thick country ,wet swamps, brair patches,u name it we hunt it.i can take just him,he will ,find, bay and catch.it my take 30 mins to get to a bay 500 yrds, thats to long to be caught in my book,so with him i can cast him,set tight watch garmin,if he finds,i know my chances are good i will have a hog in lil bit.i can walk to a bay 500 yrds away with him at my side ,wen he hears bay,he waits on me to un snsp him,he is graceful to a bay and catches on ear,and u have a caught hog.fits me

After all, that is what is most important regarding any dog...that it suits it's owner.Title: Re: update on my dogo pup Post by: dodgegirl on May 09, 2014, 10:49:14 pm Hell as long as he is putting pork on the table and you are happy with him and the way he hunts then it doesn't matter what the standered says... Or, should it ever be considered a different breed?Don't be offended. Not speaking for anyone but myself, if I had a dogo that bayed it would be culled point blank. Only because I am learning the breed & have great contacts that are helping in my goal to become a good dogo owner. I have learned a lot & and good dogo breeders that produce hunting dogs will tell you if one of their dogos bayed it would be shot on the spot. ( I was told exactly that). But this man is happy with his great looking dogo & he gets the job done so that's all that matters. Enjoy your dogo sir. Title: Re: update on my dogo pup Post by: dodgegirl on May 09, 2014, 11:08:00 pm Another reason why I said I would cull is because I'm still trying to find a good foundation stock for myself. So being that in 5-10 years I want to breed my dogos.
Title: Re: Post by: Fixitlouie on May 09, 2014, 11:39:29 pm If what you are saying is true he bays untill you get there he is one smart dog. People get all bent out of shape if a dogo bays...standard says straight catch..but if he does what uou want him to do you have a excellent dog...

Title: Re: update on my dogo pup Post by: colecross on May 11, 2014, 05:07:02 pm I didnt buy him to start selling pups,i dont wont are care to be a breeder,i wont hog dogs.i dont sale dogs, they die of old age are a hog gets them, and on other hand if there culls they go bk to dirt.
Title: Re: update on my dogo pup Post by: Shotgun wg on May 11, 2014, 06:25:47 pm I wish Kane woulda bayed till I got there. Hey may have not ended up with a broke leg. When I get Kane healed up either I'm gonna have to come down or u come up. The 2 of them would be bad news.
