Title: Comfortis?
Post by: HairyHolder on May 05, 2014, 05:25:20 pm
Anyone given this to half their yard with success? All my dogs are kenneled together in the same barn and I gave 6 Comfortis out of 12. Made sure one dog in each kennel got the comfortis.

I think you are better off giving it to all of them for 2-3 months. When I use Comfortis it kills the fleas and breaks the cycle of them. After 2 doses the fleas are gone until they are reintruduced. Ive gone as long as 2-3 years before retreating.

You can also crush each tablet and use one for two dogs... works well. Just be sure to crush each one and mix it up.

I normally use Dectomax injectable and didn't have any fleas but moved to a new yard and have them bad, plus we bring them in off the pigs we kill.

I'm a big fan of it in general. Never tried just giving it to half the crew though....

Give it to all your dogs for a few months. Fleas start dying in 30 min! I was combing dead fleas off my dogs after 30 min and couldn't believe it.
Once they are all gone it takes a while for them to come back. No need to do it year round or anything. Your mileage may vary, but when they come back, just give them another 2-3 months on it.

So far so good. Finding hundreds of dead fleas on the dogs that didn't get it. Getting the rest dosed up today. But for $240.00 for 12 dogs it better work.

At doc merrys rate of 75 bux a box 12 dogs would be 300 bux ;)  240 sounds about right.

That was the only vet in my area that would sell it to me without an office visit for each dog.

You can ask your Vet for a written prescription and find it cheaper online usually.

Trifexis does the same thing but also treats for Heart worms

100 bucks for 6 pills down here... good for a 120 pound dog so I do like Mike and crush them and split each pill between two dogs. Works great even on the couple dogs I have that weigh 80-90lbs.

Yes sir, whatever y'all do, be sure and mix it. The first time I used it, I just cut the tablet in half... it worked on one dog and not the other. Same thing happened to some friends... we assumed all the medicine is one part of the tablet.

I've been using it like this for 4 years now with excellent results... and I only use it twice a year when I start seeing fleas. the best thing about it is that you don't have to spray your yard or kennels... the dogs become flea killing machines and it wipes them out.

I get it from petsofoz.com. No need for vet RX. 60-120# tablet cut in half just as everyone has said.

$84.95 for 6pack plus $5 flat fee for shipping. I order a pack about once a year maybe to have it on hand when I need it.

Petzofoz says they don't ship to the united states

the first sentence in the shipping section say shipping to USA...

That's why I'm not sure what's the typo because if you keep reading it says it does not.

Reuben the sentence is right above comfrontis FAQ written in blue. Says we are no longer able to ship to the US. It's confusing

Mike, do you mix it with water after you crush them, or just half the powder and give it to them?

to those that use comfortis, I have a question and im hopin one of ya'll have the answer haha.

SO obviously as mike said you can use 1 one pill for 2 dogs if you crash and mix the pill first........ thats the easy part BUT here is my question, at what age can you start giving this to pups? I had GREAT results with the permitherin/ bayer mix last year but this year the flea's are drinkin that chit and multiplyin like crazy. I currently have 7 pups at my house still on their momma (3 weeks old) can I safely give it to the mother right now without riskin side effects passed to the pups? Also I have 4 pups at my house under 4 months of age that are needing some type of treatment as well, ya'll reckon I could just split 1 pill 4 ways for those pups or would it be to much for them at this age? any thoughts or suggestions would be welcomed.

You can give a comfortis tablet to any pup over 14 wks.  The tablets vary in size by the weight of your pup, so when you do crush them up you don't know 100% which pup is getting which dose. May be better off to just buy them each a tablet according to their weight to make sure everyone is getting the full, correct dose. Depending on your flea problem, your pups should be good for at least a month or more. We are able to skips a couple months in a row with our dogs.  Also, it is okay to give an nursing mother comfortis, most of it is passed through her waste than her milk and just wash her pups with dawn. Hope this helps.

I appreciate the info, the momma and pups aren't being bothered much by flea's as of yet but the other older pups I have are getting ate up. The dawn works great UNTIL they go back outside then within a day or so the flea's are back with a vengence. Comfortis it is.
