Title: Any ideas? Post by: Warthog77 on May 21, 2014, 04:32:21 pm I have two 9 week old pups. Both look and act healthy as can be. Both eating good and drinking. But there passing a thick clear mucous with blood in it!
Title: Re: Any ideas? Post by: halfbreed on May 21, 2014, 05:15:01 pm up to date on shots ? if so I would be concerned with coccidiosis and I would start treatment now with a water additive like sulmet or corid that can be obtained at just about any farm and ranch dealer . the bloody mucus is the first sign of protozoa building in the stomach .
up to date on wormings ? could be whipworms or hooks . either way act fast or you will loose them . Title: Re: Any ideas? Post by: Warthog77 on May 21, 2014, 05:32:00 pm I got the pups when they were 6 weeks old. I've wormed em twice and gave them both a 5 way shot!
Title: Re: Any ideas? Post by: hogmantx1979 on May 21, 2014, 08:41:58 pm They need 7n1 at that age and another at 12 and 16 weeks
Title: Re: Any ideas? Post by: Warthog77 on May 21, 2014, 08:45:15 pm Appreciate the advice! I just picked up some corid and 7n1 shots
Title: Re: Any ideas? Post by: Reuben on May 21, 2014, 09:47:33 pm check their gums if they are not pink and if they are gray then it could be hook worms...either way worm them with a high quality wormer...
the 8 in 1 vaccine is the only way to go...must have parvovirus and coronavirus antibodies in the vaccine... like already mentioned act quickly... Title: Re: Any ideas? Post by: Warthog77 on May 21, 2014, 10:37:42 pm I've been using pyrantel. It was recommended by a local vet but I'm not sure it's what I need! Whats a good wormer that gets em all?
Title: Re: Any ideas? Post by: Bo Pugh on May 22, 2014, 01:25:13 pm i think the only wormer that gets everything is a wormer called Drontal and i may be mistaken on that
Title: Re: Any ideas? Post by: halfbreed on May 22, 2014, 02:14:01 pm yep drontal is the best for all worms it contains prazequtal , pyrantol pamoate , and fenbatel , so it's three worm meds in one dose .
Title: Re: Any ideas? Post by: Warthog77 on May 22, 2014, 03:29:33 pm I ran the pups to the vet this morning just to be safe. It was worms! But the vet acted like he had never heard of drantol! I got sum panacur 1cc per 5lbs for 3 days should knock it out vet said.
Title: Re: Any ideas? Post by: halfbreed on May 23, 2014, 09:55:41 am drontal is an old mans lingo lol panacur same thing
Title: Re: Any ideas? Post by: Hog_Hunter_57 on May 23, 2014, 10:03:10 am Panacur has fenbendazole (sp) good stuff get all of them and wip worms
Title: Re: Any ideas? Post by: ferris tx on May 28, 2014, 09:56:42 pm Yep panacur or strongid T r excellent wormers
Title: Re: Any ideas? Post by: cantexduck on May 29, 2014, 07:09:52 am Panacur will get most worms but will not touch tape worms in dogs. It is great to use because it is very passive and if you give too much on accident your dog won't get sick from it.
