i wouldnt cut him, put him on a big chain or in a really good kennel and you should not have to worry about it.

No problem with fixing a male dogs as long as he gets excerize and gets to hunt often.

If not a breeder I would suggest it.

I think neutering or spaying a dog you don't want to breed is the only responsible thing to do. Just look in the Dog Trade to see how many accidents happen. I have a spayed female and I don't think it's made a bit of difference in how she works or hunts. If your dog is already matured, it will make even less of a difference in his personality. So make life easier on you and your dog and get him snipped.

Agreed 100%

Instead of running around pissing on things, and sniffing the girls, he will likely be hunting.

had a male dog with real bad dog agression, had him neutered.  it made a huge difference. he is like a new dog and is all about huntin, no more bs-ing around

Had a male walker hound that had been neutered since he was a pup.  He was the most laid back dog on my yard, no dog aggression.  All buisness when in the woods and gritty as all get out.  Think its a good way to go and less headaches.

I hunt two neutered males and they are both as good as any other that I own! I have a female that I puchased about seven weeks a go and now have seven unwanted pups as soon as she is dried up I going to have her spayed.

Yes.  Neuter him.

Why? I would say but I would only be repeating what Txmason, TrueBlueLacys, raider54, Circle C, a-khunter, FORREST, and lonewolf have already said.  O0

His weight should be fine if he gets hunted, but if he starts getting fat, feed him less...easy as that...

does cuttin them not make them less gamey? I would think that it would. In normal pets even i notice a huge difference. My mom was a vet and she told me that the other hunters she had come to her never got their dogs cut because they have less drive. I got my girlfriends little number 2 eater cut and it was like night and day. He was fearless and wanted to get after everything. Now he is scared of everything.

i believe a dog will still hunt but will they have as much drive and be as gamey. Lets say if you have a gritty cur dog and you want him to stay gritty, would you still cut him. Testosterone is just so much fuel for the fire. I would think you would have to exercise them more than not to keep them in shape. I would think it would be like comparing two athletes, one on steroids and one not.

I've heared both arguments but only seen evidence that supports the argument that the dog will still hunt the same after being cut.  But It can depend on the dog.  If the dog is skittish or nervous then I would not cut them because I've been told it will only make them worse in that sence.  I have a dog thats a perfect example I wanted to cut him because I will never breed him, he is just a using dog.   I thought that maybe if I cut him he would calm down and not be so spooky all the time.  However, I found the opposite to be true.  I looked into it and asked around and basically from what I found out a skiddish or spooky dog should not be cut because the lack of testosterone will make them even worse.  So this dog will stay intact.  That would be the one exception where a dog should not be cut.  Otherwise I've heard of no negative affects and all the testimonies you got from other folks say the same.  If testosterone was a deciding factor in how a dog hunts why are there so many female dogs even gritty female dogs that make great dogs?  I'm my opinion most male dogs need to have thiers taken it would make them better dogs and there are'nt that many that are good enough to be stud dogs anyway.

The only thing it will do is make him stop acting like a Alpha Male. I had a great catch dog that was neutered. it has nothing to do with thier drive. They dont need testoserone to be gritty! females are just as gritty and they dont have any testicles!

I have to agree, I have a pack of females that are as gritty as any male dog I've ever seen.

I'll throw in my .02 just for grins. Catchrcall has a male dog he had cut because of the whole peeing & sniffing thing. Now when he lets him out of the box the dog goes hunting straight away.

I've got a real gritty female, and I can assure you she does not pack a high level of testosterone.

I've cut dogs before, they did not loose their hunting abilities or will power.  If the dog has hunt in it, you would be hard pressed to make them loose it.   JMO

I have a male dog that I got neutered pretty young. He seems to be more sensative when it comes to yellin at him, but in terms of hunting, he hunts his ass off and has more drive than Ive seen him have in the past. He hunts great and listens better than before. I suggest it!!!
