was wondering if you guess knew of anything else to use as a kennel floor besides concrete.  so far though everything i've came across online would end up costing me more to do than concrete..

I have raised wood floors........ I would guess that they were less expensive than concrete. I could be wrong though.

i had gravel befor i poured concrete, it worked great. had a few/alot of rocks in the yard !

lets say you have 5 5x10 kennels. 165x5=825. You can pour a slab for less.

i poured a slap 15 x 65 and cement only cost me 1000

165.00 divide by 2= $ 82.50 x 5 =$412.50 the way I figure it for 5 kennells

Not as fancy as the wood floors and gravel but I got a hold of some old thick rubber conveyor belts.  They were about 3' wide and different lengths (10' to 15').  Works good and free. ;D

Just asking......what is wrong with dirt floors?  I have dirt.......is this a problem?

Dirt is only a problem when the dogs dig in it and use the bathroom on it, and they will do both.  There is a dust issue and a smell issue as well with dirt that can be reduced with the use of other materials as the floor.  A friend of mine used to put gravel in all of his kennels that were otherwise dirt and I will say that it eliminated the digging and the dust and his dogs feet were tough as iron.  The smell was still an issue but two out of three isn't too bad for the small cost that was incurred by bringing in the gravel.  As others have state as well there are health benefits to going to a floor that will harbor bacteria and parasites like dirt does.

I've tried dirt, gravel, and mulch......finally bit the bullet and poured concrete....BEST THING I EVER DID.....wish I hadnt wasted the time and money in all the previous trials....

With dirt comes health issues.  Fleas who cary worms, who prey on the dog's intestinal tract.  It just goes down hill from there.  If you have the means, keep them off the dirt.

Concrete is the way to go! Easy to clean!

are them boards on the bottom of them kennels a 1 by 6  or 2 by 6

i have to agree Concrete is Best and cleanest!!

i have white gravel over dirt for now.. but will one day have concrete....

and i worm all the time and use frontline for parasites...

but health wise i like concrete with an off the floor house!

After many years of having the dogs on dirt / gravel, I now have all mine on concrete.

While I will disagree that it is easier to clean, I will say that the final product is cleaner and healthier when the work is complete.  When I had my dogs on gravel, I spent about 30 minutes twice a week picking up solid poop.  Now on the concrete, I spend about 45 minutes a day washing down.

More work, but worth it in my opinion.

(Plus I no longer have to deal with the occasional dog that out of the blue decides to dig, chew, jump or crawl out)

To have a concrete slab poured, you can usually figure $3.50 - $4.00 / sf.

Ya but u cant just pick a slab up and move it so ur money is just stuck there  so u get a way better deal with blocks and u dont have 2 prepare a form or measure up anything or spend a arm or a leg just lay them down and go on

1x6 decking spaced with the back end of a carpenters pencil. Built on a 2x6 frame, 2' on center. Its more than enough to hold me up much less my 40 to 45lb dogs.

Concrete and raised wood floor have their pros and cons but having the dogs out of the dirt is NICE! Especially if you have flea or parasite issues.

Gravel pens are really hard to clean they stink when dogs urinate on them, wood is great but after awhile it starts to rote and stink due to urine, and dirt pens are a no no because thats the #1 flea habitat. I just build 3 sets of pens 10x30 each and poured concrete slabs for all of them, it cost me around 1300 for the slabs to be formed and poured!!!

I just poured a 20'X20' slab and spent just under $500.....I had beams dug un the perimeter about 6" deep but the top is about 3" thick (filled with sand)......well worth it

Raised kennel floors is the way to go mine are built just like Monterias. Nice an easy to spray out with a water hose an my flea problem went away.

Those of you with the wood floors.  What kind did you use and how long does it last???

I use wood floors. I have 2" *12"*8' treated boards. I have had them for 2 years now and they still look good, I also have a tin top on mine to. But if I would have had the money at the time I would have used cement floors.

one yard of concrete will cover 80 square feet at 4 inchs thick , basically a 8x10 . 3000 psi concrete  82 dollars a yard  so if you set the forms yourself  & pour yourself thats pretty reasonable and anyone can strike concrete off good enought for a dog to poop on

The floors in mine are just regular ol treated deck boards an i have only had them for six months so not to sure how long they will last hopefully a while.

 I was off on my math........... my bad.

    I have dirt right now. Hate it. Dog dont crap much at all but the dust kills me. Plus I have 20ga tub that the dogs get into to cool off. The water stays muddy for the most part. Soon as we close on the house I will form up a 50x11 slab for the kennels. I would hate to use rock b/c I think it would be a pain in the butt to pick up the crap. If you want something that you can take with you then look at a raised wood floor like Steve(monteria). I plan to be in the house 7-10 years at the min. The investment of 1k for the slab is a drop in the bucket.
