We'll it seems yaw are not catching enough hogs (not for the lack of trying) and the land owners WANT a solution for depredation and population control. Plus it's creating a source of income for the heli industry. The Heli industry is on the low employment side compared to the fixed wing side and any source of income is a welcome. I bet if the shoe was on the other foot, yaw would be glad to get the business and income.

I guess we will see how well this works once u get out the scrub brush. Probly work in the marsh I'm sure.

More power to them brotha!! Didn't mean for it to come across like I was against it.

It will be effective as another control measure in the marsh. Alot of that land is untouched by us, as doggers, because of access. Not permission, but physically getting to the hogs.
As long as they stay where they supposed to be, I ain't got no issues with them.

Yeah the marsh is a b*tch. There's a lot of places we can't access with the dogs. They'll have a blast doing that over the marsh. I just hope they make them pick up the bodies and use the meat

Wasn't meant for u specifically, just a general statement to those who think they own the hunting lands and think dogging and trapping are the only methods should be allowed. and that why I said "not because the lack of trying". A lot of the marshes would b great for an airboat, but even then, them hogs get into the wooded portions of the marshes, then the boats are ineffective, as is on foot.


Agree 100%, wastefulness should not be allowed! but if walking in bc of the marshes prevents hunting them, then picking all of them up won't be practicable either.

You right Charles, the airboats are the ticket, they are just so impractical to hunt out of.

Yes sir, considering the cost of them weighed in on the amount of product/pork they will yield, the cost supersedes the practicality of them. Speaking of them, how much do the cost of average? I know it can vary depending on added features, but just plain ole' 2-3 seater.

New, you looking at 35k+, depending on the motor. Some of the older rotax engines are on the lower end. The 6.7 supercharged boats are upwards of 50k. You can get a decent used big block carbureted boat around here for 20k or so.

Holy crap!!! That's a chunk of change for 1 of them. Heck them rotax can be supped up to produce a chit load of power. They use them rotax engs in experimental airplanes and soop them up and put a turbo on the to make bookoos of pwr and be lite weight.

Dunno about where yall are but here in florida you can pickup smaller air boats with car engines for less.

To hell with that car motor junk. I could bring a fleet of West Broward County Taylor "grass" hulled boats powered by 300 upstack 540 Lycoming motors and clean that friggin marsh out ;)

How much for that 540 lyco, and what's the list of other smaller lycos u can get ur hands on? I'm fixing to start up a FAA airframe and power plant school and need a few functional and dead engs with everything on them

My old man and I left our boats to family and friends when we moved here to Tennessee. We used to get first crack at "run out " motors from both Perry and Opa-Locka airports back home in South Florida. Family and friends still have connections, but you'd probably have better luck looking on that Southernairboat.com website for someone to price you out and send one your way. We used to run 180 widedeck's as well as 160's also.

RD, I think the main difference in price is the number of them y'all have down there. We have a limited number of recreational airboats over here. Most all of ours are geared more towards work type boats. There are some for that price, but they are smaller ones with the smaller 4 cylinder Lycomjngs in them. Y'all just got way more than we do, plus more builders.
