Hey what question would you like me to answer send me a personal message and we can answer it, and for where you have to hunt you hunt your spots and show up at the weigh in time at the shop you have to be signed in before the cut off date the day of the hunt and you have to be here 10 am on the 24, this mean 10 am not 10.01. We want the hunt to be fun and fare. Hey guys who hunted our hunt last year tell everyone that it was a great hunt.

There will be a 80% pay out this is to cover our cost of the drinks and food, and flyer to promote the hunt after. 1st place will pay out 50% 2nd will pay out 30% and 3rd will  pay 20% minis the 20 % for the food and drinks, if there is any money left it will be paid back in a raffle. We will make no money on the hunt. We are trying to get some sponcers for our hunt so far Razorback outfitters will be donating to our hunt.

it would be better for doggers if the date could be pushed back a couple weeks to get past deer season.

HEY PLEASE READ AND LET ME KNOW FOR THE GUYS THAT ARE GETTING IN OUR HUNT WHAT DO YOU THINK GUTTED HOGS ARE NOT GUTTED.  PLEASE LET ME KNOW SO WE CAN SET THIS UP. WE WANT TO TRY TO MAKE ALL OF OUR HUNTERS HAPPY.

Title: Re: Harry's Wild Hog Roundup 2010
Post by: Jeff on September 16, 2009, 08:46:43 pm
unless there's a way to salvage the meat there's no point in gutting them.

What kind pf set up would you need to weigh the hogs alive? Sure would make more sense to me.

Being that it i will be in january and it should be cold, if we gut them they will be much easier to salvage the meat as long as u keep on ice, i sure hate to see all that meat go to waste, i am sure we can find a processor or someone to have the meat or have some locall families meat us the day of weigh in to give to that may really need the meat. And may be a little easier to get sponsers on board knowing that we are doing something good with all that meat. And not to mention we wont have to deal with the flies and stinch ;) I vote gutted. Come on jeff you can make shawn gut them he told me he likes to do that ;D

do you have the rules printed up? or a website or flyer?

Title: Re: Harry's Wild Hog Roundup 2010
Post by: Jeff on September 17, 2009, 01:50:30 pm
yeah it would be cool if the meat could go to the needy.  someone like hunters for the hungry, but they want it skinned and quartered.  not too big a deal if each team skinned and quartered their own.  i've wanted to donate extra pork to them for a long time, but the closest office to 45 minutes from my house.  maybe they'd pick up the meat if they know it's several thousand pounds.

even thought it's cool, if you gut a hog friday night it will be rurnt by weigh in.  that'll only effect gun hunters i guess.  doggers can keep em alive til last minute.

will there be facilitiles to gut, wash, dispose waste on site?

Flyers are being printed up as we speak just wanted to know more on that gutted or not thing there will not be any where here to gut them was thinking to do that in the feild.  Well no matter how it ends up I just hope that we make all the hunters happy to where they want to hunt our hunt next year. We do this hunt for you guys.  Hope to see everyone.

Jon, I dont care one way or the other but when you say gutted you will have to define what that means. It is not uncommon for someone to (field dress) an animal and leave the diaphram, heart, lungs, and wind pipe. That could add up to quite a bit of weight on five good hogs. just a thought

Wont be that close this year  ;D Good Point though. How does tdha contest do it?

TDHA had meat inspectors that checked and tagged every hog before being weighed in. The hogs had to be gutted, washed out and in edible condition... the system worked very well in this years contest.

What are y'all planning on doing with the hogs? Contact Hunter's Harvest and see about donating the meat.

Leave the heart and lungs? Not in my neck of the woods......

I would do gutted. No reason to bring in bloated hogs to a contest. It isnt hard to keep hogs in decent shap with ice over a weekend. Tarp on trailer, ice down hogs, roll tarp up. As long as it isnt 90 pkus the hogs will stay in decent shape. Just plan to spend 100 on ice as a team.

IF WE DO THE GUTTED HOGS THERE WILL BE SOMEONE THERE TO CHECK EVERY HOG THAT COMES IN THERE SHOULDNT BE ANY HEART LUNGS OR ANYTHING IN THEM.  YES I WOULD LOVE TO DO THE HUNTERS HARVEST LIKE TDHA BUT THE HOGS HAVE TO BE SKINNED AND QUARTERED, I DONT HAVE ENOUGH HANDS TO DO THAT TO ALL OF THE HOGS, ONE REASON FOR THE GUTTING OF THE HOGS IS THE SMELL AND THE WEIGHT OF THEM EVEN IF THE WEATHER IS COLD THE HOGS WILL STINK AFTER TWO DAYS AND THAT IS THE REASON, I DONT THINK YOU GUYS WOULD LIKE TO SKIN AND QUARTER YOU HOGS WOULD YOU.  IT WOULD BE EASIER TO GET THE HOGS OUT OF THE WOODS GUTTED ALSO.

Either way I would rather keep them alive long as possible. Just kill them at the last minute.

I really like the gutted idea and for me and our team i have people that need the meat to give too or would donate. Any local meat lockers that might want it?
