Title: Proud of my new kennels.
Post by: RyanTBH on August 21, 2014, 04:49:06 pm
Well the past 5-7 months I've been piecing these things together whenever my friends and I have time. I couldn't have done it without the brothers of TBH helping me out every step of the way. There are five  12'6" x 5' kennels. The one of the far right is a whelping box. We cut the bottom off a water tank to use for a pan in the bottom of it. The others are just normal kennels with 50gal white barrels for houses, and a 3.5' deck in the back of em that's a foot off the ground. Should have made them foot n a half off the ground for easier cleaning. Would have liked for them to be a little bigger, but I already had the slab so I used what I had. Females in the kennels, and males on chains.

Thanks y'all. I really appreciate it. And couldn't have done it without a lot of help from my brothers. Blakebh and myself came up with the idea. DavidTBH, JeffTBH, DallasTBH, and my buddy Nick... Can't thank em enough. Charles, those were 16' x 5' (2x4" holes) horse panels that we cut to size. Still going to seal it all the way off with the scrap I have. Might have to buy one more piece. 70 bucks a sheet. Reyeb, I'll see if I can't come up with all the material costs for ya bud. I'm pretty sure I'm a little over the 2g mark, but I think I had a tool or three in that price too. That's not counting how much food and beer I bought for my boys while we were doing work. I also did it over time so it didn't hurt as bad. I'm planning a septic system next for the back. Make a little gravity drained system. I'll post those specs and pics if I can put it all together. ;D

They turned out real nice. Now we just need to put a good seal on the concrete and get that skull I'm working on mounted up. Lol

Here is the one I'm working on for your kennels Ryan. Just took it out from soaking Tuesday, after a week or so in the sun it should be ready to put back together and mount up.

Don't won't to take anything away from the thread but when I told TSC that gebos panels where 50 for the 2x4 panels they matched it. Just thought it might help someone save twenty dollars a panel.

Damnit! Really? And they are the welded 16' with 2x4 holes? I sure wish Ida known that before hand. Wow! And thanks Blake! I really appreciate it brother.

That's the hog skull we pulled out with Jimmy's dad's front loader isn't it?

What is a gebos panel? 50 is cheaper than 70, but dang thats still expensive and they dont have them in 6' panels

Better be careful with that fan in the whelping box... You might end up with some bob tailed pups...  ;D

Looks good Ryan...

Charles gebos is the name of a store similar to TSC. They make a six foot panel also but it's more expensive. You can run cut the panels and run them the other way. I will get you some pics when I get home. Those panels are high but they sure work well

Thanks TW. And yeah, I like the panels a lot. Way more sturdy and you don't have to pull it like the fencing. Just more expensive.

Update as requested... it's not spot on but you'll get a good estimate. The build was off the hip for the most part. We had plans we started with then just ran with it. The kennels are 12'6" x 25'. Each kennel is 5' x 12'6", and 4 of the 5 have a 4' deck in the back of the kennel a foot off the ground. I should have done them a foot and a half high for easier cleaning.

Using all treated lumbar:
(18 ) 10' 4x4 posts
(40-50) 16' 2x4s
(10-12) 16' x 5' 2x4 horse panel
(13-15) 16' 1x6 deck boards
(3) 8'x4' 3/4" plywood sheets
(12-14) 12'6" long R panel metal roofing sheets
15 hinges
5 gate latches
Nails and screws

The fifth kennel has the whelping box in it. Lid lifts up for access to the pups. That's what the plywood was used for. Also bought laquor to seal it off from nastyness.

In total I think I dropped around $2500 on the whole thing. That doesn't include beer and labor time. Lol ;D if I would have had to pay for labor it probably would have doubled easily. It wasn't an easy task.

looks great.  great design

Thanks. Blake pretty much came up with the idea. It was a lot of work. Lol

Oh and there is a 4' overhang off the front. Covers the doors so if it's raining won't get too soaked while feeding. Plus I've ran electric and and plan on putting up lights and fans for the summer. Figured some box fans pointed down would do just fine. ;D next step is to build a septic system. I've got the design figured out for that. Just gotta get the holes and trench dug. I'm also about to run water out to them soon. Plan on building a shed to the side of the kennels with a small outside bench and sink for cleaning game and other stuff.
