Title: carport kennels Post by: halfbreed on August 22, 2014, 12:06:26 pm been seeing the threads on folks building kennels and all the money tied up in materials . was wondering if anybody had used the metal carports for kennels . I have been thinking on doing this and for the price 695 to 895.00 for an 18 x 21 free standing carport that could be turned into 8 kennels with little effort . I plan on having an inside under the roof plus outside runs with a walkway down the middle . looks good in my head lol just wondering if anybody else has done it and had pictures .

Title: Re: Post by: Fixitlouie on August 22, 2014, 02:35:35 pm Im just on the cuff to build one. Since im a contractor its going to be built on the cheep but have automatic water, cleaning and drains for waste. Just working out fan and misting systems.
Title: Re: carport kennels Post by: halfbreed on August 22, 2014, 03:40:09 pm yeah ferris the concrete is a killer lol but I figured on just having a good gravel floor with wire under it to prevent digging or maybe wood slats on the inside and gravel outside . i'll make mine to be able to disassemble and load up and haul it all out west of I-35 when my commitment here in east texas with my mom is over . I saw an 18x21 advertised today for 695.00 delivered and set up in one day . that's pretty good [ I think ] lol

Title: Re: carport kennels Post by: muleskinner on August 22, 2014, 04:23:39 pm Halfbreed I saw one built like you are talking about. The man that has it is on here but I don't want to put him on here . He can holler if he wants. They looked alright. Had lights and water plumbed to it.
Title: Re: carport kennels Post by: muleskinner on August 22, 2014, 04:28:08 pm I know if I build anymore kennels it will be the 2x4 welded panels and not the 4x4 panels. My old kennels were 4x4 and the new kennels aren't. The smaller holes save a lot of trouble. I don't need a brand or tattoo because every dog I have has a split lip from fighting thru the 4x4 panels.
Title: Re: carport kennels Post by: halfbreed on August 22, 2014, 05:23:10 pm yeah I know that's right mule , I have all ways just used the regular cattle panels to have to come back and hog ring some 2 x 4 weld wire to it . I'm planning on making sections from the 2 x 4 panels that will bolt together underneath the canopy . everything I do here as of now has to be able to be moved at one point in time . it will most likely be a costly investment but one that will go with me where ever I decide to settle In my old age lol .
Title: Re: carport kennels Post by: charles on August 22, 2014, 09:04:55 pm Mr whitten, what bout taking angle or square tubing and welding it into what ever ur length n width would be? ie:10x12x6. Weld 2 anels of 10x6 and 2 panels of 12x6 then bolting them together
Im gonna start forming up to pour a L slab with a feed/tack room and instead of buying premade panels, build a 10x10x6 panels and bolting them together and bolting an L-bracket to the slab in a few places to keep the dogs or cows from pushing the kennels around. I plan on pouring a 12x30 and a 12x20 with a corner style feed room of around 4' at the front door, 12' down ea side and whatever the back would be with a double 4' door for forklift loading n unloading. Title: Re: carport kennels Post by: dub on September 03, 2014, 09:42:36 pm Use hog panel on the bottom it gets smaller. I plan to do like Charles said and weld up my own metal frame and then just add a roof like on carports so there is no way to get out top or bottom. Plus locked gates slow down anyone trying to steal a dog long enough for me to get a clean shot. ;D

Title: Re: carport kennels Post by: halfbreed on September 07, 2014, 09:30:48 pm yeah I saw that myself looked pretty good .
Title: Re: carport kennels Post by: mike rogers on September 08, 2014, 05:58:03 am pretty cool pic. Be easy to do and is a great idea.
Title: Re: carport kennels Post by: Freedom-Fighter00 on September 09, 2014, 06:17:35 pm I bought a Leland barn last year and made my kennels out of it. Cost about 4,000 for the barn and 3500 for concrete but its a good investment. Keeps them warm then we also hung chicken fans.
