We hunt horseback a good bit. Some lead catchdogs  from horse. I usually get handle on mine and they know to stay with the horse by voice command. Them bulldogs are a lot smarter than they get credit for. Once in awhile you'll run into a bulldog that is so hot hell try to catch anything no matter what but you just have to cull. I've got a litter on the way, because people know these catchdogs I raise and you don't hardly find em like this anymore. I'd stay away from those bullies and get a good old game bred dog. Remember they gonna have to keep up with horses.

I ain't done it in a long time but love it we need to get together one days and go. I hunted with shorter range dogs then and haven't tried it with the new pack and my original dogs were a little rougher.

We put the catch dogs in the saddle bags as pups on the horses that tolerate dogs, some horses just can't stand dogs. This is how we build endurance in the catch dogs and break them in with the horses. They usually stay about 30 yards from the horse until
Given the sign to go get some.We use the catch dogs to trail the hounds in the canyons when the gps don't work.

A lot of times we just use a long lead and lead the bulldog along. If you've got time and patience then get you a shock collar on your bulldog around the house and get about a 20 ft rope and teach your bulldog to stay with you at all times (rope the first few times cus they run off) and then all the time around the house doing chores keep him beside you, he gets to wondering off then light him up and make him come back. Before long you can ride your horse and keep your bulldog loose but rite beside your horse with a shock collar on him. Lots of people don't believe it would work but a bulldog is a lot smarter than you think. If you can get in a routine wen your hunting then you can ride 50 yards or so from the bay, get your bulldog to come to you, snap a leash on him, then walk up a few steps and un snap him and send him so he knows that you have to get off and send him before he can go so he doesn't go as soon as he hears a bay. I used to hunt with an old timer a lot that had all his bulldogs trained to do this. Pretty neat.

Funny you say that kid7. I did the same thing with my bulldog and it got to were he was scared to get away from me to go to the bay, so when I got ready to send him I would just snap the leash on him then right back off again and he would tear out to the bay.

^ that's a good lookin horse
I don't mean to get off of the horse and catch dog subject but
I'm real new to horses . What type / bred of horses do y'all use to hog hunt off of ? Do y'all mostly hunt in pastures ?
I work bird dogs off of my freinds Tennessee walkers and love it vs my four wheeler. I'm just having a hard time thinking of how y'all get them in thick woods

We use quarter horses. And don't stop at anything. Obviously we try not to swim em, but go thru any thicket. You find out how much heart your horse has when they have to push them briars.

We are talking about making a hunt tomorrow. If all works out, I'll post some pics. My buddy has a hunting preserve and needs some meat hogs, so we're going after some.

Thanks for the comments. We ride our young horses in the woods and get them broke and then start roping on em. We've had a few wrecks, some horses don't like dragging or toting hogs. I'm proudest of my daughter tho. She's a real hand. If I get away from my horse to catch a hog she's ponied my horse to wherever we end up. Thanks again fellas and good hunting.
