Any one ever used border collie or crossed with one?. To put lil more speed an brains on a hog dog

Looks good on paper but seems to me a BC just wouldn't have the stamina that a good cur dog would and would over heat quicker. I could be wrong I've never had any dealings with a cross such as that. I know our healer/ Aussie cross is one of the smartest and fastest dogs I've seen but in the dead of summer the heat takes it's toll on her while working cattle.

Try a light colored yeller dog to a another light colored yeller dog....and you will probably have something nice to work with.  ;D

I had a collie cross dog dog a little while. Extremely intelligent dog but sucked as a hog dog.

Cross in to a Kelpie, got brains and speed just like the BC and Aussie but short haired. I had a full Kelpie gyp that was a heck of a hog dog

The right line of mt cur with a well bred catahoula cur or yellow cur...that will put some hunt in those stock dogs...

My buddy has a kelpie and I've never seen a dog that can go for miles on miles in 100 deg weather never want water or stop. He also is super fast athletic but he's a weiny

kelpies are more heat tolerant than bc or aussies but all three while mostley head dogs still want to nip and make stock move .

    i used to use hangin tree cowdogs , a 4-way cross of bc kelpie aussie and cat . they didn't have near the hunt or heat tolerance as my yeller dogs . i always wanted to try that cross for a cowdog but not for a hogdog .

I know a man that has a reg. border  collie that will find and catch a hog no problem. Has far as stamina don't think u will have a problem for heat the have a short hair collie. Might look at the Mc Nab collies. Know ppl say the will go all day long.

A little splash of collie doesn't hurt a hog dog recipe, the intelligence is off the charts and once you experience it you realise it's value.

However, my general rule is, whatever you're hunting with now, cross it with a staghound and it will be better.

I gotta think a GSP or really any of the versatiles would do the trick. I know folks who hunt everything with there DD's and DKs from quail and turkey to hogs and yotes.
