Title: First Post Here
Post by: Critter on March 26, 2008, 02:47:08 pm
I've been reading for a while, put never posted. I met several of ya'll at the TDHA/ Expo Contest and really enjoyed the visiting over the skinning table. Anyway, here's some pic's of some we got recently.

I spent several days looking for hogs and turning up zero, and then the dogs found them. Tonka, Tinker, and my new Mt.Cur/Pit pup Hula cut out this young boar and bayed him in briar thicket. Tonka and Tinker did their usual good job at baying, and I was much impressed with Hula also. She got right in there with them. Not bad for the first hog she's ever seen. They kept this pig bayed rock solid for about 20 minutes while I crawled around in the briars to get the shot.

A couple days later we went again. This time swapping out Tinker for Jester. I ran into a hunting buddy right before daylight who was scouting getting ready for April turkey season. We visited until good light while listening to turkeys gooble from the roost. I determined that I might need to go elswhere to turn out the dogs to avoid spooking the turkeys and to preserve a friendship. I rode around to another patch of woods where I found fresh tracks crossing the road and turnied out on them. Tonka, Jester, and Hula had this sow bayed and spinning within 300 yards of the road. I slipped in and made the shot and was dragging her out when I saw Hula 25 yards in front of me stop on a dime and threw her head in the air. She took off for about 50 yards, barked twice and dove under a brush pile. Both jags went in with her and what insued was pure carnage. Little shoats were piling out like ants and the dogs did their part in the hog erradication department. Looks like Hula is going to make a welcome addition to the jagd pack.--John
Thanks to Roger for what is looking to be a good Brindle pup.

Thanks Fellas

Catchdog,
My oldest and youngest came from Jones Knite Hunt Kennel in Missouri.
http://missouribloodtrackers.homestead.com/MissouriBloodTrackers.html and my middle dog came from Decature, Texas. www.clearcreekjagdterriers.com I would also highly recommend Scott Als at Dixieland Jagdterriers. I believe Knitehunt has pups on the ground now, Clear Creak is expecting some soon, and Scott always seems to have something and his are hog dogs for sure. I also saw a couple pups for sale on http://www.jagdhunt.com/mb/ but I know nothing about these two. Hope this helps. I love mine. Wouldn't trade'em for love or money.--John

Welcome.  Like some of the others have mentioned, lets hear some jagd stories.  I've never had the opportunity to see them action, but they sound like tenatious little boogers.

Thanks All for the Warm welcome. I haven't been at this long so I don't yet have a sack full of success stories, but what an adventure it has been. I'll keep ya posted as we go and may even dragg up some of my "learning experiences" I've had with these jagds. My dogs are all young and we're ALL still learning as we go.

Roger, if these first two outings are an indication, she's going to be a dandy.

Matt,
You must have spotted the pine trees! I live in Longview and do most of my hunting around Smithland, just North of Caddo Lake. If you head East through the woods from my camp, you come out in Vivian, Louisiana.

Good deal Critter, my parents have a place just west of there around Linden.  They have a ton of hogs on their place that I am hoping to get up there and run before it gets too hot.  Keep the pics coming.

Critter,

I think you are supposed to be posting in the good old days forum!

For those that don't know about critter, he was born in the wrong century, about a hundred years too late ;D

Dang right Circle C. I'm for church on sunday, fightin' when you're mad, eatin' when you're hungry, and scratchin' when you're itchin'. i'll take that as a compliment. Ya'll still coming to Austin next month? We're looking forward to seeing you again.

Matt, Give me a shout when you're coming to Linden. I'll give you directions to the house. You can meet the jagds and we'll throw something on the grill for you.

Mark, Roger will have to correct me if I'm wrong here, but I believe she's only going on 6 months old.

Critter and his "superdogs"... I've never seen more versatile dogs than his Jagds. They hog hunt, run trap lines, blood trail, and retrieve. And he has the pictures to prove it! Those little dogs are like dynamite - they may come in small packages, but there's lots of BANG!

Welcome to the boards! (please get stephanie a screen name on here too :O)

"superdogs"
Easy there Aladatrot,
Sure don't want anybody thinking I'm putting on airs about my jagds. They're not really superdogs, just very exposed. I'm not a purist as alot of folks are. I was told in the begginning that the jagds were versitile dogs, so I've tried to get them into and work them on the stuff they were supposably bred to do. So far they have excelled. I love anything I can do with them. Bloodtrailing a hard track has alot of satisfaction, but nothing gets my heart pumping like slipping up when they've got a hog bayed. That's as good as it gets! --John

I won't tell them you've been bragging on them....Might swell their little black and tan heads!!!

Critter,
Glad you made it over.    I am sure everyone here would love to see all your trapping pics too.  If Mike and Sean got a problem with it tell them it is MY FAULT..........LOL

Your Jagds have sure come a long way in the past year and they will only get better from here.  Keep up the great work
