Title: deer seasn lasts way too long Post by: bolo on December 21, 2014, 08:31:08 am The deer season in louisiana where I live & hunt starts Oct. 1 and lasts till Jan. 31.You would be taking a big chance of loosing a dog while people are deer hunting here.My ol' dogs will be fat & out of shape when I can start back hog hunting Feb 1.I can hunt to the middle of march when turkey season opens, then I'll have quit again till the last of April.By then it is getting pretty dam hot.I don't anything I can do about it,just venting, complaining.

Title: Re: deer seasn lasts way too long Post by: halfbreed on December 21, 2014, 09:46:49 am yep I feel ya pain lol , at least the parks and wildlife gave us an extended squirrel season starting this year so we can get the squirrel dogs out an extra couple of weeks after deer season in texas .
Title: Re: deer seasn lasts way too long Post by: Georgia-Hawgs on December 21, 2014, 03:12:32 pm Almost over here in north Georgia. Jan 1st...goat season is history...!!!! ;D
Title: Re: deer seasn lasts way too long Post by: charles on December 21, 2014, 04:15:19 pm For some, season isnt long enough. For myself, playing catch up, i wish it was longer.
Title: Re: deer seasn lasts way too long Post by: Georgia-Hawgs on December 21, 2014, 04:36:22 pm I must admit i like to deer hunt to. But i like running dogs better. If people weren't so quick to shoot a dog i wouldnt care how long season lasted. Me and my boss got into a heated debate over it. He is a dog shooter..lol..he was trying to convince me that if i was in the stand with deer around me and a dog came through and busted them up that i would shoot it...i would be mad and dissapointed but wouldnt shoot the dog. He said he would shoot my dog, i told him i would steal his trail cameras...lol..i know where he hunts and about a week later he came in asking if i had stole his ground blind and trail cam...lol..he knew i didnt but sure nuff somebody did.

Now them dog shooters, that's bs. It's a good thing the law is catching up with dog owner rights and starting to prosecute the shooters. To bad the law doesn't allow for the dog owner to take matter into their own hands in a NON LETHAL method. Burning the shooter's house down would send a msg to other shooters. Title: Re: deer seasn lasts way too long Post by: Robster on December 22, 2014, 04:13:23 am WOW! And I complain about deer season being too long here. Our deer season starts on October 1 with bow and closes on December 16. Used to start on October 15, I hate that they moved it to the first. And I was complaining that it was too long. Deer hunting is fun, but I would rather be out with the dogs.
Title: Re: deer seasn lasts way too long Post by: JGUIDRY on December 23, 2014, 01:28:29 pm Halfbreed, do you take your cur dogs and catch dogs squirrel hunting?????? ;D
Title: Re: Post by: bjohnston0311 on December 23, 2014, 01:37:48 pm I have heard some opposite opinions of dogs during deer season....I have heard of folks asking fellas to run their squirrel dogs and what not when the deer waiting gets slow. Get em up and moving...PS: a fella shoots one of my dog and he may end up like the dog.
Title: Re: deer seasn lasts way too long Post by: halfbreed on December 23, 2014, 01:47:46 pm jguidry yep my trashy dogs will catch any thing especially possums lol
Title: Re: deer seasn lasts way too long Post by: Goose87 on December 23, 2014, 01:59:58 pm Ha half breed I got a 9 yr old brindle cur that's the trashiest squirrel dog around here when squirrel seasons open up on the refuge by my house.
Title: Re: deer seasn lasts way too long Post by: Kid7 on December 25, 2014, 01:31:39 pm I can vent a little too. Gave my dogs to a buddy of mine wen I went off to school, come home for Christmas break and check my cameras and I've got 2 different groups of hogs coming to a feeder of mine. It's driving me absolutely INSAINE!!!!!!!!!! I can call my buddy and he'll come over and we can turn out a couple or I can go pick some dogs up and go but I'm bout to loose my mind looking at all this pork on a computer screen in the meantime.

Every once in awhile I get asked by the man with the badge why my squirrel dog is so scarred up. I just tell him if they'd control the hog population, my squirrel dogs wouldn't keep trashing on hogs and getting beat up :D Title: Re: deer seasn lasts way too long Post by: hoghunter71409 on December 25, 2014, 04:50:05 pm Hey Bolo- If deer season was one week long, that would be 7 days too long for me.
Title: Re: deer seasn lasts way too long Post by: muleskinner on December 25, 2014, 06:35:33 pm If a man can't kill a deer in two weeks then he don't need to be hunting. The deer hunters in north Texas think they own ten mile circle around their lease as well. That will get their blood pumping. Lmao
Title: Re: deer seasn lasts way too long Post by: Goose87 on December 25, 2014, 06:41:28 pm BA-IV I've been asked the same and my response is that he is a scrappy little cuss and those are from yrs of protecting his pride lol
Title: Re: deer seasn lasts way too long Post by: Gun Bullety on December 26, 2014, 04:48:03 am I don't understand why you can't dog deer. Used to be a top pasttime in europe to hunt them with catch dogs just like pigs. It would be so much better for the population from a greeny standpoint, because you'd be weeding out the slow weak stupid ones just as nature intended, instead of sinking a bullet between the eyes of the fittest male around.

Title: Re: deer seasn lasts way too long Post by: halfbreed on December 26, 2014, 08:29:10 am I know , I know it to be true shotgun but you can wrap that scientific study in gold wrapping paper and give it to a deer hunter and they will call it bull crap propaganda created by the wildlife dept's to ruin their chances of killing a deer lol every deer hunter knows that deer won't come to a pile of corn slathered in doe in heat lure after a dog has been in the area .
I think Alabama or Georgia did this type study as well with the same results . Title: Re: deer seasn lasts way too long Post by: cantexduck on December 26, 2014, 08:38:06 am Just be glad there isn't a season for hogs.
I love deer season , my family loves to deer hunt and I manage hunts on a ranch. We deer hunt from October until the last day in February. Title: Re: deer seasn lasts way too long Post by: charles on December 26, 2014, 06:34:31 pm Running dogs wont interupt a deer's habits. Yes, the dogs will run the deer off but could return back to the feeder within 10-30mon after getting spooked off. Iv seen deer spooked by dogs, other deer or other animals and 8 out of 10 times, the deer return to the feeder. I had a flock of turkeys run a couple doe off n when the deer realized it was just another wild animal n posed no threat, they returned n fed with the turkeys.
Now hunting non baited areas, yes for the most part the deer wont return if there isnt anything to of intrest to get them to return. iv hunted nf land and there is no baiting allowed and its a crap shoot if u see a deer unless sitting on top of a game trail n even then, there aint no ganrantee a deer will walk the trail on a specific time or day. Title: Re: deer seasn lasts way too long Post by: Shotgun wg on December 26, 2014, 09:57:50 pm I have seen deer run 30 yards and stop while a pack of dogs ran a deer by. After the dogs were gone they went back to feeding. Also if u wanna kill the most deer in front of dogs stand where they jump and wait. They are coming back to that spot sooner or later.
Shotgun Arkansas Title: Re: deer seasn lasts way too long Post by: halfbreed on December 27, 2014, 09:23:27 am lol yep sometimes it was hard to tell if our young beagles had busted a deer or were running a long legged buck swamp rabbit that had a large home range . some of them ol swampers would take the dogs plum out of hearing before they circled back .
