Title: Garmin 320 questions
Post by: dallas22 on December 23, 2014, 08:11:12 pm
Just got a new garmin 320 it seems to have a big delay of where my dogs are. Also it more accurate if the garmin is straight up and down rather the parallel to the ground . I had to recalabrite a few times last night does anybody else have problems with there garmin and is there a way to fix it with out returning it.

Change update rate. As far as pointing to right spot I find the roll bar on my big red interferes with mine and it's more accurate standing on the ground. I calibrate mine before every hunt.

I also just hit a 320 with dc-50.
When I got it it would not track the dc -50
At all but would track my 40's.
I updated the hand held and it will track em all now here at home
Just fine. But when I went out in the bush to hunt it wouldn't
Pick up the 50 tracks 40's no problem.
Any ideas ?

For as much as we pay for this stuff, it should work as soon as you turn it on.

did it come with an owner manual? my 220 didn't, so i had to go to garmin and download the users operators manual. that manual should explain the update rate, and a section for troubleshooting. i found the troubleshooting guide useful for most of my issues i was having.

Update the 50 collar. U can do it thru ur 320.  Don't remember steps off top of my head but u can google that. Most 50's had to be updated when u bought them

I tried the update on the 320 but it did not change anything. It's crazy my collars could be in front of me twenty yards it would say its behind me if it was to the left of me then it would tell me it was on the right side of me. I'm just gonna exchange it and hope the new one works.

When u are standing still and the collar is in one spot does it move around on the map? I have had them do this when collar had bad connection on antenna. Beyond that I don't know. Sending it in may be only Option. Gyro may be bad or something.

I just spoke to garmin and reinstalled software. they told me that if the collar is with then 9ft of handheld it may show the wrong direction. also told me if I was going to a dog that the compass might start going crazy around 30ft but anything further it will show you the right direction. I guess pretty much when u close it sucks but great when your way out  its great. I was going to exchange it but I see myself having the same problem. I should have kept my 220 I guess im going to see how these updates do are get some long range dogs.

On mine the only time mine did anything like that the antenna connections were dirty. I could stand 10 steps from dog and look at the map and it would show the dog 300 yards behind me and a few seconds later be 30 yards the other. I have the 320 with long range on it. I have DC40's and a 50. The 40's were the ones that did it. Haven't had the problem on a 50

Shotgun, what is the advantage in using the birds eye ? I just recently bought a 320, and know nothing about the birds eye .

Have u ever seen google earth maps? Imagine that overlayed on ur topo plus ur dog tracks. If u don't know a place it's invaluable. Even when u know the place the Ariel pics can help u zero in on a spot faster. 220 yards could be one side or the other of a canal that isn't on ur topo. With birds eye u can see it. I love arial maps. It has helped me find 4wheeler trails thru the woods on places I have never been. It may show where a gate is to keep u from going miles out of the way. I have google earth and iPhone maps on my phone. But vein able to grab the 320 and know exactly instead of comparing distance between garmin and phone is a major plus. Not to mention loss of phone signal.
