Title: Re: Knife Post by: Cajun on January 06, 2015, 08:09:51 pm I have read on the knife forums that you are supposed to anneal them first. Heat them until they are non magnetic. Then cut, and grind them the way you want before you heat treat & temper them. Also read that Bellota horse rasps are supposed to be 1095 steel.

I have heard of guys that never anneal them but its durn near impossible to drill the holes for the pins if you don't. That critical temp is about 1475 degrees for 1095.

Title: Re: Knife Post by: kerreydw on January 07, 2015, 09:42:04 pm I hear them up then grind all the file teeth down shape it then sand it down about 3/4 of the way to being finished then retemper it and then I'll finish it just make sure and not get it hot
