Title: Re: who believes this?? Post by: Judge peel on February 12, 2015, 06:24:46 pm Lol that's funny kinda like guys that say if your dog won't run a hog all night it's not a hog dog ha ha
Title: Re: who believes this?? Post by: pinecreekkennel on February 12, 2015, 06:44:15 pm Yea my take on that subject would be if you catch hogs consistently then its a good hog dog. Short range rough is definitely not my preference but to each his own.
I see all the time people saying that dog sure has long legs I bet he can run! Or look at the running gear! Or bet he can fly! Just because they have long legs don't mean they have the nose and brains to run a track fast Title: Re: who believes this?? Post by: bigo on February 12, 2015, 06:49:21 pm A long leged fast dog can run a track only as fast as his nose and brain will let him. What good is all the speed in the world if the dog is over running tracks and making loses.
Title: Re: who believes this?? Post by: Georgia-Hawgs on February 12, 2015, 07:01:04 pm I prefer a long legged dog. But like y'all said. The nose and brain has to be there for the speed to be any good. Otherwise you'll just have a fast idiot...hahaha.
Title: Re: who believes this?? Post by: hoghunter71409 on February 12, 2015, 07:03:33 pm Not me...here is why:
A dog that cant smell....cant move a track A dog that don't hunt....cant move a track A dog with no heart....cant move a track Ive got a short legged runt gyp with all of the above that is almost 12 years old....she can keep up with most dogs that have long legs and everything above. She can scoot through a thicket and leave a long dog in the dust. I don't care about legs, color, or anything else. You show mw a dog with "want to" and I can show you a hog dog or any other type of dog. Title: Re: who believes this?? Post by: reatj81 on February 12, 2015, 07:09:48 pm I'm all about speed, but like bingo said they have to have other tools also, nose and brains, and let's top it off with good stock dog baying style. Without confirmation you don't have much longevity. I'm not asking anyone to agree, but it is the requirements to be on the payroll at my house.

i got a 14.3 hand horse that has drug bulls weighing well over a ton out of the arena and woods that a 16.2 hand horse wouldn't even tighten the twine on lol Title: Re: who believes this?? Title: Re: who believes this?? Post by: Georgia-Hawgs on February 12, 2015, 07:20:20 pm Ive seen short legged dogs smoke a long legged dog in a thicket and a long legged dog burn across a field and leave the short legged dog lookin stupid. And the other way around for that matter. Its all about the dog. I like a long legged yella dog but ive seen dogs of all colors that were just as good or better. When i say long legged i dont mean somethin that looks like a miniature giraffe. I just look at the physical composition of the dog and like some legg underneath them.

Title: Re: who believes this?? Post by: Judge peel on February 12, 2015, 08:36:51 pm I got a little 40 lb short leg short body dog that has 20 ton springs in his legs he ain't the fastest dog but I ain't seen many keep pace with him I guess he has a good track speed and make up speed. I like misfits I guess but they usely have big heart

Yellowblackmask for the WIN!!!! You nailed it. Title: Re: who believes this?? Post by: Reuben on February 12, 2015, 09:55:20 pm I like a well balanced dog that has all the right traits...not too larger or too small...not heavy boned and not light boned...but a dog that shows speed and strength all in one package...kind of like the middle linebacker on the football team...I like well boned legs with a good length to them...
too short of body with too long of leg equals bad gaited dog...bad gait=inefficiency Title: Re: who believes this?? Post by: Bo Pugh on February 12, 2015, 10:27:25 pm i like dogs with some running gear. Just a example- a little short legged weanie dog might get ahead in a thicket for a little while but he ain't going to be in it for the long haul he will eventually give out and if it ever opens up them leggy dogs are going to put him in the dust. A long legged dog can cover more ground if tbeir able to run and if they stay on him they will eventually get the chance to stretch out every now and then. if they don't get their nose out of the dirt their going to be slow whether they have long legs or short. The coyote and fox hunters around here all run in pens but their about speed and bottom they use real leggy dogs for a reason not something shaped like a beagle.
