hemphill wilder are ofrn-old family rednose. dogs but the petterson camalot stuff is suspected of having mastiff and other stuff bred in it. the ones i have seen have poor pasterns and breath heavy.

None of those Jason has should have an under bite and you can find several that Don has without one. He just did a breeding of some old standard blood with his CD that should produce some good ones!

Depending where you are and how far you are willing to travel. There are a good group of kennels that have ABs worked on hogs without much under bite.

The one jason has does. And i recently went and spent a couple of hours with mr.Don on his yard. He has some real good looking dogs over there but some foreign guys came and offered him what was in his words "crazy money" and he sold pretty much all of his breeding program to a guy in canada who will then ship them to i think he said Italy. He has one pup that he said hopefully would mature into a good stud dog. But at the time he didnt have anything for sale. He's a heck of a nice guy though with a BOAT LOAD of knowledge on the standard american bulldog breed.

He was talking about hoping that one of his females came in before those dogs left so that he could produce a litter of pups from those 2 dogs. So he was able to make that happen huh?

Title: Re: hey pit bull folks ??
Post by: GAhunter on February 18, 2015, 06:55:26 pm
He made it happen and he only sold 4 dogs. He has plenty more. That male Jason has would make a great catch dog. All out of proven lines.

Post by: Georgia-Hawgs on February 18, 2015, 07:18:37 pm
Thats good then. He was telling me that those 4 he sold was a major part of his program and he priced them what he called "way out of line" lol just hoping that they wouldnt buy them but they did anyway. And as far as that dog jason has i just prefer a dog to have a solid uniform bite. Im sure the dog could and would catch hogs though. Also he was saying that he wasnt sure what was the matter with the dog. He said he was worming him like crazy and pouring the feed to him but he was still very skinny. ? And i am by no means talking bad about him he's a real nice guy and has some very healthy AWESOME lookin Bulldogs over there.

Depending on when you want something.... I'll be breeding my female Lula to a Bullhead stud soon. She is half game-bred APBT, half inbred AB. Id be willing to place a pup free for evaluation. Female caught first hog she saw. Havent decided which male so not sure if he has been on hogs or not but Bullhead is a top notch AB breeder.

He had a underbite. I dont care for that. He was registered with nkc and somebody else. I cant remember the other one.

If your looking for an APBT I would not be as concerned with how it's bred as how it's made and what kind of temperament it has. This coming from a guy who has had nothing but fast lane bulldogs for over 35 yrs. I have tried my dogs on hogs over the last 5 yrs with limited success. The last one was 55 lbs of want to who never learned to find a mark. He was the biggest pain to get thru the briers with. The one before that coulda been a good catchdog but was getting older. I got a linebred catchdog APBT 1 1/2 yrs ago and he got to hunt this year for the first time and man what a diff. He went to the ear every time and if the ear was taken he got the cheek. He weighs 72 lbs after a month of steady hunting. He is lean and tall like a good APBT should be. His handle is improving all the time. You can tye him to a tree 4 ft away and he will settle pretty quick while you are tying the hog. I don't like the term gamebred very much cause it don't mean schat anymore but those type dogs are a little more of a crapshoot with temperament issues. You are in the middle of a bunch of old dog guys tho where your at. You don't need a game dog to catch hogs just one who knows he is catchdog and not a sometime catchdog! Good luck with your search.

My dogs are not bully like that....i like the lil bit of hybrid blood to keep the size and bone type stuff.  a small under bite aint no big deal...even many of the performance bred AB's have a slight undershot bite....the dont catch with the k-9's anyways they should catch with the back of the mouth. but that big bull prolly didnt breathe well either i bet.

Hey G-H that AB looks to be HEAVY Johnson influenced type dog. Stick with the performance or more standard dogs that have a history of being used on hogs and you should be fine.

This is what a look for in a pit. First is broad head for body size but not over sized second length of snout I like a med length in portion to his head size 3rd is legs don't matter the length as much as long to the dogs size and a bit longer of a body helps to if you can hit these best you can should be in the mark well least to me lol

Bryant just told you the truth about the bite and grips. A good bulldog will get a full mouth, deep grip whether in pig work or man work. You've got some very well bred bulldogs just a few minutes down the road and a wealth of knowledge with one of those guys on top of that.

Don didnt have anything for sale when i was there. The one jason has im not interested in. Also im not looking to spend close to a thousand dollars on a dog.  I know a bulldog will catch a hog and the canine teeth are not what should be catching. I just prefer a scissor bite on a dog. And im probably wrong but when the hog breaks i bet the canine teeth will play a part in sitting that ass end down enough to get back on that head.

Go with one of the AB's you've looked at!
i can't seem to find one without an good under bite.

I thought AB's were supposed to have at least a reverse scissor bite. even bite and scissor bit I consider pitbulls. Especially with  these hard headed ones.

If you do end up going with with an apbt, I would look for one who's parents were catchdogs. I agree 100% with Wayoutwest, he hit the nail on the head. Might be hard but see if you can get a feel for what kind of temperament the parents have. Make sure they are not super hot, cause there again that could end up being a lot of work to control. Just my two cents.
