Title: "Shoulda stayed home in bed" Hunt...
Post by: Mike on February 23, 2015, 12:30:45 pm
Underdog and Peachcreek met me out on the prairie yesterday morning at a ranch I haven't hunted since last year. Right off the bat I stuck my rhino and another fella stuck his ranger. The landowner drove around to show Travis how to get to us and pull us out... well, on the way around he stuck his F250 diesel... 3 down! :o Travis finally made it to us in his yota and got us out. We kicked dogs out and I went for a little walk to look around. After a while, I realized I dropped my phone somewhere along the way! Luckily Travis found it where I turned around and back trailed myself about a half mile. >:( Dogs came up empty, no sign anywhere to be found. We loaded and went to the other side of the ranch. Dropped dogs and eased on thru there for about a mile... nada, no sign at all. We crossed a low spot near a tank and the bottom fell out under the yota... number 4 vehicle buried today!!! As they fooled with winching it out, after I snapped the winch cable on my rhino in half, I had to run around and pick a dog up that was getting out of pocket. On my way back I came a different way along the creek and found a little fresh rooting from the night before on the corner of the ranch. We headed that way and Ann and Preacherman already had the hog bayed before we killed the motors. Sent some pups in and caught a good, baron sow in her bed... called it a day after that!

That's a rough one for sure. You dropping your phone reminds me of losing my tritronics remote 2 weeks ago. I went back the next day walking into a bay & followed my same exact route & 300 yards or so in, I found it. How lucky was that.
What is the story on the saddleback gyp. She have some running blood in her? Good looking dogs.

I believe she's a plott/cur cross from what Travis was told when he bought her.

I did the same thing several years back with my tritronics remote and garmin. Stuck them in my jacket pockets and they fell out when I threw it over a limb. Luckily I remembered where it was and found them both laying on the ground right there haha!

I would like to see someone walk behind these dogs.. Lol.. Cajun i really dont know the facts on lady. She was supposedly bought from an old mountain man in the mountains of northern Oklahoma. She is supposed to be a plott cur cross.. I was told the old man had a yard full of bear hounds and hog dogs??? Lived up in the mountains with no phone, you had to contact him through the feed store. ???

That's Underdog's Preacherman dog. He goes back to my old Tweety gyp and some local blood.
