EAST TEXAS HOG DOGGERS FORUM

It's truly amazing how people feel about what we do.  Saturday night we are packed up and filing gas and getting drinks at a gas station.  With all the dogs in the dog box and a couple of dogs on top of the box.  With many people driving by and kids in ah of the dogs and some hunters just amazed at the temperment of my buddies catch dogs.  Had one dove hunter come and and rub all of the pits, just amazed at how docile and well mannered my buddies dogs are.  Then it happens.  I lady probably in her 50 or 60's comes creeping up behind the truck.  i am sitting in the passanger seat and notice her roll her window down and just give me the most gosh affull look i have ever received, while shacking her head.  She then proceeds to come back around and block us from leaving out.  Now the good people we are we kindly start to make are way out, and this lady begins flipping us off, cursing at us, and yelling all kinds of things.  Mind you this is a very busy gas station right on 35 and there was a questimated 50 people there.  Everyone i could see was looking at the lady wandering what the heck was going on.  It was like she lost all control. She then proceeded to take down our license plates and all of that.  We live in a farm town with lots of hunters, so this sort of thing does not happen normally.  It just is crazy to me that these "people" have so much hatred to us.  The dogs are totally covered in jackets, cut collars, tracking collars, which is pure proof we do everything we can to take care of our dogs.  I don't know it's just crazy to me that a lady of her age and probablly has grand kids somewhere but she can blurt out horrible language and think she is a better person then us.  JUST CRAZY.  sorry for the ramble we have just never had that happen to us and the 10 plus years we have been doing this. 

Yup, and I'd bet she voted for you know who. rolleyes

I would have listened real close...probably could have heard a verbal threat.  Then I would have gotten the name and number of someone who saw this happen (a witness), then proceeded to get her license plate info and file a complaint with the local PD...teach her to keep her trap shut.

Bryant I agree. This has never happen to me or anyone I know here in Southern OK and I hope it never does. The county sheriff and I are lifelong freinds I would hate to be on the work side of the law. But the way I figure it if they think they have a right to harass me then ditto I should have the same rights after all this is America ant it. Sorry about ranting, but these things have a way of getting under my skin!

I had something simliar happen, but not with the hog dogs. As you guys may know, we have the smal business selling camo and hunting products. We set up at different trade shows and showcase what we have.

We have been doing this for a couple of years and have had good responses. We have been doing shows all over Fla and into south Ga.

Well, we did a show on the west coast of Fla last year. It was a fall show, cooler weather and a good turnout. We had the booth set up with the children's camo, mossy oak purses, etc and our cut collars, vests, staple guns, etc.  Lots of people coming and going in the booth, and most people were outdoors type people.

Two older couples walked by together, and one of the women stopped and walked into our booth. She looked at the kids camo (we do infant and toddler only), the camo purses and wallets and just kept looking at me shaking her head. Finally she walks right up to me, venom in her eyes, gets almost nose to nose with me and tells me (in her loud New York accent)  that my booth was "disgusting" and that I should be "ashamed" of myself. Forcing kids to wear camo clothes, etc and making rednecks and such out of them......and hunting?? It should ALL be banned!!

Edited: What I didn't say was that my booth was full of people at the time and there were about 10,000 people at this event. This lady (or should I saw woman, as she was no lady....) was causing people to gather because of the noise and commotion she was making, which I assume, was her intent.

Well, that just caused this "redneck" to get mad. I usually stay pretty well composed when something like this happens, but this time I told the lady I paid for this booth space, I owned everything in it, and if she didn't like it, she needed to leave.

She got REAL mad, cussed me out and went to the show managment. It wasn't a hunting show, but had hunting and fishing related vendors along with other types.

The show managers were hunters though, so she didn't get anywhere with them! Made her that much madder and she walked back by my booth and if looks could kill I wouldn't be here today.

It does make you wonder about people with mindsets like this. This lady had to be 60 years old, probably lived in an apartment her whole life up north somewhere and had never been in the woods. Yet, she was telling me all about what a low life I was for having camo and hunting products for sale........

The scary thing is, this type of people are becoming more and more common.......and they VOTE!!!

   POSSOM KINGDOM LAKE DRAWS IN A LOT OF PEOPLE FROM THE DFW METRO PLEX, AND ALOT OF THEM DONT KNOW THERE HEAD FROM THERE A$$. WE GET ALL THE TRAFFIC DOWN 180 FROM THESE PEOPLE.  ONE DAY I HAD SOME DOGS IN THE BOX AND WAS HEADED OUT TO MAKE A RUN AT OUR PLACE I STOPPED ON THE OUTDSIDE OF TOWN TO GET GAS. WELL THIS LADY CAME OUT OF THE STORE AND YELLED YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF. THEN SHE STARTED CUSSING AND CARRYING ON. IAM IGNORING HER AND JUST PUMPING GAS. AT THIS POINT I GUESS IAM NOT GIVING HER WHAT SHE WANTS (A YELLING MATCH) B/C SHE STARTS WALKING OVER TO THE PUMP STILL YELLING AND POINTING AT ME. PEOPLE ARE STARTING TO GATHER AROUND AND ARE LOOKING AT HER CRAZY. I FINALLY HAD ENOUGH OF IT AND INSTEAD OF YELLING I JUST STARTED CLAPPING AND CONGRALATING HER FOR MAKING AN A$$ OF HERSELF. THE PEOPLE WHO WERE GATHERED STARTED LAUGHING SHE GOT EMBARRASSED JUMPED IN HER CAR. WHEN SHE WAS LEAVING SHE SPUN THE TIRES RIGHT IN FRONT OF A MINERAL WELLS COP AND HE PULLED HER OVER. THAT WAS A GREAT DAY!!

i fully believe in people having opinions, but there are ways to stress your own opinions. the people i run with and i are family people and do family things.  My buddy has a very young girl that is the most well mannered and smart little girl.  She knows whats right and whats wrong, but when it comes time to go hunting she will cry if she can't go.  I would have hated to have her with us that night and be around that.  We did not lash back at her but did has you did nosightsneeded and gave her what she didn't want, and that's no attention.  i think all we can do is push our sport as the good sport we beleive it is, turn who we can, and smile at who we can't

MAN THAT IS SO REDICULOUS  >:( , THESE D@MN PEOPLE DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT WE DO AND WANT TO JUDGE ... IF U ASK ME THEY NEED TO MIND THEIR OWN BUISNESS, BECASUE I KNO IF THEY WOULD PULL THAT IN FRONT OF MY SON OR MY LIL BROTHER THEY SURE WOULDNT LIKE THE OUTCOME  ;) , PEOPLE LIKE THIS HAVE NOTHIN BETTER TO DO THEN THINK THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKIN ABOUT AND BUT IN OUR BUSINESS AND JUDGE  rolleyes

Let them get to the point of threatening you... Then get them with assault by threat.  Worked for me about 10 years ago. The jerk spent a night in jail over it too ;D   It's a long story, much longer than I care to type. I will say that I was surprised the officers acted on it, and it was them that made me aware of the potential to press charges for assault by threat.

If a raving idiot starts yelling and cursing at you over your dogs, it won't be long and they will make a threat ;)  Just play nice..kindness really gets their blood boiling.

You let her copy down your license plate # without writing hers down ???

Seriously? She can identify you and your residence with that information. If you have issues down the road, if she is some whacko who shows up at your house to steal, poison or otherwise disrupt you or your dogs, how will you identify her? How can you even file a complaint for harassment or terrorist threat  without some identifying information?

I guarantee you that I get the license plate of EVERYONE who shows undue interest in myself, my dogs or my property. If anything ever happens, I can assure you that each and every one of them will be reported as a suspect.

i know i know.  we are dumb for not getting her license plate, but really we were just caught off gaurd in amazment, becuase like i said that sort of stuff doesn't happen in our town.  We will NOW be a little smarter about it.  Thanks for the feed back from those that have experience with this sort of thing.

I hadn't thought of that steve.  that's something I'll remember.

cause most people don't realize they have no clue what they're talking about.  they read all this propoganda put out by these "animal loving" groups and aren't smart enough to question what they read.  the biggest problem is the majority of the general populous are sheep.  they never have an independent thought or idea.  they read a bunch of garbage and spew it back out as if it's the god's honest truth.  that's why if you play cool in a situation like that and can actually calm them down long enough to speak with them and hit them with factual information, they usually get red faced and walk off feeling like a complete idiot.  and in most cases they're not actually dumb, just misinformed.

One day we were headed back to the pasture from the navasota auction barn (cattle sale) and I had 2 pups and another dog turned loose in the stock trailer and they were running around and playing with each other when a middle aged lady pulled up next to me, rolled down her window, and preceded to tell me that I was cruel and didn't deserve to have dogs. I have had looks before but this one topped the chart
