Title: Floridians Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on September 28, 2009, 03:43:20 pm What public land are you hunting this season? Did anyone get any good hunts (Green Swamp West or such)?
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: sfboarbuster on September 28, 2009, 03:49:37 pm Kissimee River which is always good, and I got a quota for Seminole Ranch, never been there before but its worth givin a try.
Might give mallory swamp a try if i ever get up to my place in Trenton again Title: Re: Floridians Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on September 28, 2009, 03:57:46 pm Got Green Swamp West and Chasawiska (spelling may be off). I've hunted West the past 3 seasons, but this year they are in serious trouble. I've got a pack that is ready and willing. I've never been to Chasawiska before. It is on the coast. Of course, these are in addition to the regular management areas that I hit every year. It should be a fun season if it gets cool.
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: sfboarbuster on September 28, 2009, 04:06:19 pm You should really try kissimee river, it is by far the best management area i have ever been on LOTS of hogs and it doesnt get hunted that much.
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on September 28, 2009, 04:08:35 pm I've got a cur dog hunting cousin that lives in around St. Cloud. He did have an airboat. I may need to give him a call. I don't have a boat these days.
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: sfboarbuster on September 28, 2009, 04:16:58 pm We should try and meet up this year sometime and go hit it, ive got a 13 boston whaler, throw a dogbox on the bow and we'll be good to go
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on September 28, 2009, 04:26:44 pm I've got a buddy that hunts hounds with me. He has a nice metal boat that he gator hunts out of. We might need to get together. Is this place cuttable? Meaning, can I get to my dogs?
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: sfboarbuster on September 28, 2009, 04:36:59 pm Yeah, there is alot of big islands out there that you could drop the dogs on and be able to run a boat the whole way around it
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on September 28, 2009, 04:39:19 pm That area is known for gators. My dogs swim like fish. ARE THERE REALLY A LOT OF GATORS AROUND? No hog is worth lossing a dog to a gator.
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: sfboarbuster on September 28, 2009, 04:50:54 pm Yeah there is a pretty good bit of gators around
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on September 28, 2009, 04:57:56 pm Sounded great, until that. Most likely, I'll pass. Thank you for the info though. TOOOOOO many good places to drop a dog, without having to worry about a lizard.
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: sfboarbuster on September 28, 2009, 05:13:09 pm I dont think ive ever hunted a place without them, guess there just not a big deal to me
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: sfboarbuster on September 28, 2009, 05:19:55 pm I was wondering, i was reading the pamphlet for seminole ranch where i got a quota and it says you can have no more than 3 free running dogs, does this mean you can have as many dogs as you want and just 3 on the ground?
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on September 28, 2009, 05:40:33 pm Yes, you can take as many in the dog box as you want. However, don't turn out more than three at a time. That includes the catch dog. When you release him, you better not have more than 2 others out.
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: sfboarbuster on September 28, 2009, 05:41:00 pm Alright thanks

Alot of hogs, rough, ty ty vines so thick on one end, most people stay away from that area. Met some good people and a few with sticky fingers. Caught plenty though. Title: Re: Floridians Post by: crackerc on September 28, 2009, 08:24:56 pm Josh,
I am looking for someone with a Lake Panasoffkee WMA dog hunt permit, if you hear of anyone with one. It is now a regular quota, so you can't trade it, but its close to my house and I know the place well ( I have hunted the dog hunt in there the past 3-4 years) so if someone has a permit and wants someone to go with them, I would like to get in. There seem to be more hogs in there this year than last and we caught 8 in two days last year. I have GSW again this year too, and a buddy has Potts. We hunted Chasawitzka last year, caught one decent boar hog, but the place wasn't overrun with hogs. Have to watch for bears in there too! Good road system in Chas, you will have fun running the hounds as long as they don't go to the salt marsh. Never hunted Kissimmee yet but I DO have an airboat..... ;D Title: Re: Floridians Post by: WAARHEID on September 29, 2009, 03:01:47 am Uggh.... you guys are killin me! Gettin an itch to make a trip back down to Florida!
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on September 29, 2009, 06:18:37 am Any of you guys that want to get together for a Mallory hunt, let me know. I know the place well, and have some good spots. Bring a change of clothes, as you will get dirty.

Ive drove through it a couple times and it looks pretty boarish

Title: Re: Floridians Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on November 30, 2009, 09:09:14 am I've got a Green Swamp Hapton Tract hog dog hunt in February. I don't think I can go. If anyone wants to work a deal on the permit, it is transferrable.
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: sfboarbuster on November 30, 2009, 02:36:50 pm Where did all of the florida guys go?

There is a couple of places that you can park and walk to but youve got to go a pretty good ways. Bringing a boat is a whole lot easier though, and you have alot more options of where to go. This weekend I think a me and a bunch of my buddies are gonna try and head out there. If you want to come you are more than welcome if we end up going. Last weekend I went and saturday I caught two decent hogs and sunday we ran the deer dogs and killed 4 does and a spike How about seminole ranch? I got a permit in january for it. Has anyone ever tried it? John Title: Re: Floridians Post by: Florida Curdog on November 30, 2009, 06:09:54 pm I got Tosohatchee this year and I'll be hunting the Upper St. Johns Marsh. You should do good in Seminole Ranch it has a lot of hogs. I had an application for the St. Johns contract to do hog removal in there but never turned it in. I know plenty of people hunt Seminole Ranch that slip in from the river year round.

And Im not sure on the dogs, whether you can have only 3 with you, or 3 on the ground at one time? Title: Re: Floridians Post by: Florida Curdog on November 30, 2009, 06:36:12 pm I know Tosohatchee is 2 people and 3 dogs on the ground but you can have as many as you want in the truck.
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: sfboarbuster on November 30, 2009, 06:43:36 pm Thanks
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on November 30, 2009, 06:45:38 pm We got Hálpata Tastanaki hunt in Feb. Has anybody ever hunted their. My buddies that hunt black mouth curs hunted it last year. They said it was good. We all got it this year. They said they don't run much in there. I drive a blue Chevy Z-71. It has an aluminum dog box with rig rail that should be stacked with hogs (cross my fingers). Get up with me to introduce yourself. Hope everyone does great this year. Regards, Josh Title: Re: Floridians Post by: crackerc on November 30, 2009, 09:04:52 pm spazhogdog I hunted Halpata last year and caught 9 hogs in 2 days with my sorry potlickers........ ;D
First hog was a 205 lb boar that my Monkey dog found. He wrecked my buddies young male cur that was out with Monkey. Took a whole staple gun to put him back together..... Hopefully that won't happen this year as we will be back again this year and I have three young dogs I need to hunt! I am going to Starkey's this week, hopefully will have some pics to post from that hunt. Monkey just got his stitches out today from the first Alston tract hunt (we had two boar hogs caught by 9:15 am there, but the second one cut Monkey pretty good). I may or may not hunt him at Starkey's, may take the "B" team and see how I do. Title: Re: Floridians Post by: spazhogdog on November 30, 2009, 09:16:26 pm Cutter Bay Kennels we will have to meet at this hunt in Feb. am looking forward to it.
Cracker good luck at Starkey. I would like to see your Monkey dog. Title: Re: Floridians Post by: crackerc on November 30, 2009, 09:26:48 pm Unless something bad happens between now and then Monkey and I will be at Halpata. We have permits so hopefully we will be there. I am easy to find, I drive a 4 door grey F-250 diesel. Actual tag on the truck is F-250 and its says Cracker Creations on the back window.
If you see us, stop and say hello. Just don't try to pet Monkey...he is kind of "unsociable"...... rolleyes Title: Re: Floridians Post by: spazhogdog on November 30, 2009, 09:39:28 pm Will look you up, don't worry I don't reach for anybodys' dog. the gyp in my avatar is not a social butterfly either.
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on December 01, 2009, 06:39:05 am Any of you fellers that have that hunt are welcome at my lunch table. Might need to kill some wings or something.
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: JSEAY on December 03, 2009, 03:14:53 pm Southfl what part of the river do you hunt? Doesn't really matter I don't guess good hunting everywhere but thinking about loading the airboat up in the next week or so and head down for the day.
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: sfboarbuster on December 03, 2009, 05:03:21 pm Most of the time it ends up being close to the bombing range, but we hunt the marsh right off of the 98 bridge a couple of times a year
But it doesnt seem like there is as many hogs in there this year. We ran the hog dogs two saturdays ago and only caught two. The next day ran the deer dogs and killed 5 does and a spike with the hounds, so it seems like there is alot more deer up there this year though. Title: Re: Floridians Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on December 30, 2009, 11:01:58 am Getting into the good weather for the year. It's looking up.
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on January 05, 2010, 09:23:06 am Mallory starts next week. Who's going?
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: sfboarbuster on January 05, 2010, 12:10:14 pm I might be up that way near the end of the month sometime, might have to try it out.
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: spazhogdog on January 06, 2010, 09:40:04 pm Mallory starts next week. Who's going? We will probably go after deer season. How long is it going to stay open? Title: Re: Floridians Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on January 07, 2010, 06:42:58 am 1 month
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on February 15, 2010, 07:26:16 am Cutter Bay Kennels we will have to meet at this hunt in Feb. am looking forward to it. Cracker good luck at Starkey. I would like to see your Monkey dog. Spaz and Mark, I've got GS West this week, and Hal. the next. If you guys go, catch up with me. I timed a trip to town from Hal the other day. You can be to all the restraunts within about 10 minutes from the gate. There are a couple of wing joints around that area. Nothing better than going to lunch smelling like a boar hog. Like I said, if you guys go, get up with me. I'd like to shake your hands. Peace out, Josh Title: Re: Floridians Post by: spazhogdog on February 15, 2010, 06:54:56 pm Josh, Good luck at Green Swamp. Will be looking for you at Hal. hunt Mr. Mark, hope GS is better than starkey hunt. We didn't go, sold our hunt. Heard it was wild the first night with to many people and not enough hogs.
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: crackerc on February 15, 2010, 07:05:18 pm Guys (and girls) I will be at GSW with a whole crew...be about 8 or 9 of us and about 84 dogs...okay I am kidding about the 8-9 people...... ;D
Seriously though, we just kept getting people added to the group and now have way too many people for us all to hunt together. I hope we can split up into about 3 groups and hunt seperately. Will just have to see how it goes once we all get there. I don't like to hunt with more than 3 dogs on the ground and there will be 2-3 other guys with 4-5 dogs each. Plus my dogs, and I hope to be able to hunt my two Bob x Red pups on this hunt, but I don't want to hunt them with dogs that I don't know a lot about (i.e. trashy dogs, etc). I will be in a grey F-250 with Cracker Creations on the back window, so if you see me, stop and say hello. I will be in Halpata the following week also, but with a whole lot fewer people!! Title: Re: Floridians Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on February 16, 2010, 06:43:30 am We've got 4 passes for West ourselves. We will basically hunt each guys pack alone. We will take turns on the turnouts. Hopefully, we have a lot of fun this year. I've heard it has been wet down there, which should make it better than last year. Man, was it dusty.
Title: Re: Floridians Post by: cetchdawg on February 16, 2010, 10:44:39 am I have the second toso hunt its good till thursday caught one decent boar hog and got wrecked on another !! had a coupe good races !there is 150 permits for each of the two hunts 3 dogs on the gound as many as you want in the box !!! they were runners and had their nikes on............. that place is also slap fulla gators!! seen plenty that would eat a 14 jon boat for a snack !! but this is fl they are everywhere !! cant avoid em !! ive hunted the glades all the way up the st johns and kiss rivers and knock on wood not had a dog get eat by a gator !! had some scares though ! they are gonna be worse in places like toso and green swamp cause there is no Open lizzard season ! a few years ago we caught a good boar hog in toso on the edge of a big lake and had a 12 footer makin wake to the dogs catchin i went in and legged the hog and toted him to some dry ground while my partner threw everything he could at the gator to keep his attention !! the gator never went down and stayed at the bank the whole time we were foolin with the hog and dogs !!

Just another thing to worry about. :o Title: Re: Floridians Post by: cetchdawg on February 16, 2010, 11:02:28 am i guess its just something the folks who hunt here hafta deal with i ?? does it bother me ??? Of course !!! do i not turn my dogs loose ??? well heck no !!!! ya never know when yer gonna stumble on one !! we come across one in some pines and palmetters a good mile from any water in toso !! only about 7 foot but still big enough to snatch up one of my 30 pound catahulas ???

I've always heard the Withlockochee was infested, but knock on wood, I've never seen them yet. I still continue to be on the look out though.
