Title: Re: dog that fights Post by: Georgia-Hawgs on April 22, 2015, 08:37:40 pm This same ssubject has been posted here alot..couple of things. Are you shocking him during the fight or before it starts? The dog will alot of times associate the shock with the other dog if it has gotten to the point of a stand off or fight. After it has got that far nothing but the boot will help in my opinion and experience. Also is it only males or is he just dog aggressive in general ? May have to hunt him alone or with the ladies only if you can't get him straight. Good luck to ya !
Title: Re: dog that fights Post by: Shotgun66 on April 22, 2015, 08:38:25 pm U might consider castration/neutering. This is more effective on young males.
- Hunt him by himself or with females only. If u have all males, maybe u can place him with someone who will hunt him alone or with females. Shoot them straight about his flaws. - Try to identify his trigger points and avoid putting him around other dogs in those situations. In the dog box? Around feed, etc. - Put the shock collar on him at home. Every time he postures up to another dog, buzz him. Do this regularly and consistently. This method is more effective if u have a confident dog that will turn away from him when he postures up on them. - I understand your frustration. I can't stand a dog that is just flat mean. Dogs like that have ruined many hunts and friendships. Sounds like u know what to do if he is not fixable. Good luck. - Title: Re: dog that fights Post by: charles on April 22, 2015, 09:17:38 pm Fighting dogs seem to contract a dose of lead poisoning on my yard.

That is really odd I've seen the same thing around my yard also.. ;)Title: Re: dog that fights Post by: Georgia-Hawgs on April 22, 2015, 10:13:38 pm all i have is males so hunting with females is out ive shocked him defore after during and all seems to make it worse i have had on in the yard and lit him up like a christmas tree when i hear him growl at other dogs and he stood up and growled again everytime sorry to post on subject thats already been discussed but im out of options and his time is almost up just thought there maybe something else to try i didn't mean to sound like you shouldn't have posted it again. I was just saying your not the only one with the problem. If he was just a jam up awesome hog dog that would get it done by his self maybe you could run him alone with a lead in catch dog. Or place him with someone that would before he was culled . One thing about running him alone is if he's rough on a hog he'll eventually cull himselfTitle: Re: dog that fights Post by: charles on April 22, 2015, 10:34:52 pm I know u said shock therapy, but that was with a collar. Have u tried a cattle prod? I had an issue with a bitch dog, a guy said he could cure her, so he took her, and sure enough, he cured her. Put her and another aggressive bitch in a small dog box and took a prod and lit both their a$$es up. A few treatments and both were cured. A prod puts out a lot more current than a collar and will put them to their knees most Ricky tick, especially a jolt u der the jaw or just behind the ear where head meets neck. Be careful though and don't stay on them in the head area, ull scramble their nervous system and could cause serious and irreversible damage.

Title: Re: dog that fights Post by: labaconchaser on April 23, 2015, 07:41:48 am he is rough and can hold one by himself but i really dont hunt like that i like to see my dogs working together and most everytime i have friends and they have dogs to bring h3 is just becoming a yard ordament i will try cattle prod wont hurt to try one more thing before culled
Title: Re: dog that fights Post by: bignasty on April 23, 2015, 08:24:12 am Shocking him is not going to solve the problem.some dogs are just wired that way.u say he is a helleva dog ,to each his own.
Title: Re: dog that fights Post by: labaconchaser on April 23, 2015, 08:39:15 am i think every dog has a flaw in some form his is just a flaw i dont put up with n wanted to c if someone could help with the problem i think ur right bignasty bout shocking but worth a try with his potiential he wasnt like this until he turnd 2yrs now hes 3yrs n has got worse everytime ive taken him to the woods ive give him plenty of chances to get his mind right he just not coming around to my way of thinking
Title: Re: dog that fights Post by: Mike on April 23, 2015, 10:16:56 am Walk him on lead around other dogs and wear him out if he growls or raises a hair. Then work on loading him up with other dogs... pull him out and repeat the above. Might take a little time and patience... but he should figure it out.

Title: Re: dog that fights Post by: J. Tallina on April 23, 2015, 10:22:43 pm I got one used to fight bad hot shot fixed him let him know your mad. Now it takes a whole lot for him to fight he'll cower down and look at me a lot of the time when another dog growls
Title: Re: dog that fights Post by: Reuben on April 24, 2015, 05:22:53 am dogs that want to fight or a pain in the rear...the way I see it the dog better come from a decent line of dogs and is a good dog as well to keep him around to even try to break ...most dogs that act this way have their mind on dominance and not on hunting...
You will have to make a statement that makes that dog back down...he needs to know you are top dog without any question about it... I once bred to a dog of that type and all the pups came out like him...I didn't keep any and got rid of the dog even though he was a good hunting dog.. the only thing worse if the dog starts whipping other dogs off a hog...and pups can be ruined by a dog like this at the bay Title: Re: dog that fights Post by: justincorbell on April 24, 2015, 09:13:28 am I know u said shock therapy, but that was with a collar. That was my first idea after seein that the collar didnt work............light him up, turn the electricity up to "memory reset" and fry his butt when he acts ignorant......... If that doesnt work I can only see 3 other possible solutions to you problem. 1) neuter him and hope it works 2) hunt him solo 3) dirt nap Title: Re: dog that fights Post by: Bo Pugh on April 26, 2015, 08:23:37 pm Like Mike said walk him around the yard on a leash around all the other dogs and when he gets bristled up grab him by his back leg and have a piece of extension chord ready and put it on his a$$. And when you get that fixen to where he won't do it with you there put him in the box with another dog and leave the leash on him. When they get to growling or what not pull over asap and drag him out and put that exrension chord back on him and the other dog too if you think he needs a attitudes adjustment also. If he does it in the woods go straight to him don't wait till later on and try to whoop him. A lot of curr dogs are ill they just need attiturd adjustments. I have never liked a shock collar for breaking a fighting dog it usually makes things worse.

Title: Re: dog that fights Post by: labaconchaser on May 14, 2015, 09:40:21 pm I hunted him a couple times b4 I had to go back to work tmatt had pretty good advice that seemed to make progress with him when he started I held him down n let other dog stand there while holding him down n letting him no there was only one top dog in the pack n he want it then put him in dog box for rest of the hunt the 2nd time repeated process but only left in the box for an hr or so n let him out he was fine the rest of the hunt I've been gone a couple weeks hopefully b heading home in the next week or so and he will be worked with more n prolly have to start over but in my mind i think his worth it and can be tamed thanks for all the advice
