New to the forum, hello all. I had a bitch, I believe, take a black widow bite. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this. She seems to be recovering from the tremors and drooling and is getting around better now. I think she is out of the woods. My question is what kind of tissue damage should I expect, I know a recluse would be bad but what about the widow? She took the bite right on the tit she is all swollen (about 4 tits), worried she may not be able to feed pups...

Sure it's a spider bite and not a snake? I have had a gyp get bit by a snake and swole up like that antibiotics and lots of em is what I gave.

JMO but spider bites are worse then snake bites. I have never had necrosis set in on a snake bite but had a lab in the kennel that got bit on the muzzle one time. I knew it was not a snake. Anyway his muzzle swelled up and I put him on antibiotics. Two days later I had to take him to the vet. About a silver dollar size spot was rotting out & it took a long time to heal with a lot of scar tissue. I was pretty sure it was a black widow because anytime you turned a dog house over at that place it was full of them.
  Twenty years or so ago, my wife got bit by a brown recluse sitting on the steps. She spent 4 days in the hospital & she ended up with a golf ball size indentation on the back of her leg after it healed.

 Cajun I had the same thing happen to a Florida cur named cracker when he was 14 weeks he got bit by a moccasin in the head he swelled up huge for 3 days the swelling went down he was fine a year later he was in the pen and got bit by a spider and it was much worse he got bit on the shoulder it was just a knot at first I called vet and he said to keep an eye on it and his temperature.went to work and when I came home he had a huge sack of infection cantaloupe sized took him to the vet and he lanced and drained it intravenous antibiotics over night then pills for a week just about killed the dog.Fogged my kennels and no problem since.

If they live over the dang spider bite and that old nasty hole keeps draining get you some Today teat med. it's for mastitis in cows stick the plastic tip up in the bit as far as you can fill the wound full out the medication you shouldn't have to do this over two three times and it be well be sure and give penicillin shot to

What did you fog your kennels with? What's it called and where do you get it? Thanks

I believe it was black flag just the 3 pack fogger they sell my kennels are indoor so I just took dogs out closed it up tight and set all 3 off left it closed all day.killed everything

my brother got bit by a brown recluse and he said it was not painful...just a warm sensation that swelled up like mt Everest...then turned black and the tissue died...the doc dug out the dead tissue and he had the prettiest and shiniest silver dollar sized scar tissue right on his rear right cheek...

I have heard that the black widow has a very painful causing venomous bite...

my cousins husband used to be a high paid manager for Target...he went around building new targets around the country...he got bit on the leg by a brown recluse and it killed off his lymph node system and he had to get on disability for the rest of his life because of that bite...

I use bifen xts and not the regular bifen...the xts is 3 times stronger for a few dollars more...

I have only used it once last year and am about to use it again but I am waiting for a mosquito outbreak so I can get them as well...

I buy a bottle of cutter yard guard and dump half out in another container...about refill it with bifen xts and shake it around a bit...I then hook it to the water house and I then spray the back yard...brick walls, tool room, trees, dog houses cedar fence etc...etc...under the dog houses concrete slab and kennels...

this is guaranteed to kill all bugs including spiders and fire ants...I used to spend all kinds of money on fire ants and this wiped out(all) about 15 mounds...

it takes about 5 minutes to spray the back yard...I then repeat for the front yard...just pour the other half of the cutter back into the original container...last and lasts...only thing you will also kill off and/or keep away are the honey bees...

if you do it this way just make sure the hose and everything is set up so as not to slow down once you start spraying...spray early in the day so it has time to dry up before the evening fog sets in...

wear rubber gloves because this stuff will stick...besides you don't want that on your skin...there is no telling what that mixture could possibly be once mixed...

wiped out the fleas as well...
make sure to let it dry before you let the dogs back in their kennels...

Thanks for all the input. I will  have to give that teat med if it opens up, she is doing a lot better. Still not herself but she finally ate some food and will walk around. The swelling is going down some but it is starting to get hard. About like a muscle and is still noticeably swollen. No drainage or any sign that it is going to pop open. That worries me a lot as well. Will have to wait and see what it does. Wanted to post a picture but still figuring this forum thing out.

We just had an old bulldog get bit by a spider. On his rump. He has ALOT of unreal fluidy swelling, the area drained, turned purple and black. Eventually the swelling went down, but he's got a very nasty scar there now. We had him on Prednisone and Penicillan.
