Title: Re: Gardens Post by: Cajun on May 11, 2015, 10:22:36 pm About 1980 the wifey decided she wanted a garden. That was mistake number one. Mistake number 2 was I planted her a garden but made it too big. Mistake number 3 was thinking she was going to be doing all the gardening. I cannot believe all the work that goes into those things. It was like a prison, weeding, spraying, fertilizing, watering it, you name it. That one year broke me from ever wanting to be a farmer. My hat's off to all of you that do plant gardens. To me,nothing tastes better then sweet corn or fresh tomatoes but I will buy my veggies from the local market. Saves me a ton of time & sweat.
Title: Re: Gardens Post by: halfbreed on May 12, 2015, 08:28:59 am Cajun you forgot to mention gopher hunting ;D but yes in the beginning they are killers , but after a few years after you get them established and the ground where it needs to be they are a joy to have and work . I can't wait for the time I can get out there this year and pick me a big ol fresh beefmaster tomato and have me a double decker MATER SAMICH LOL

Before i headed off to work, the grass was coming on good in the garden. I left instructions for the wife to use my tiller attachment for stihl trimmer motor on my narrow rows and the big tiller in wider rows. But if it dont stop raining, the tillers will gum up with mud and she will track half my garden away on her feet. Gotta get a wk of sun on it to be able to get in there, but the 10 day forecast is forecasting rain all the way till nxt fri.
Title: Re: Gardens Post by: Sambo5500 on May 13, 2015, 07:06:35 am You got that right Charles. It's so wet around here I haven't been able to do crap outside. So I've been remodeling one of the bedrooms in the house for the baby. About done now though so gotta think of something else to do in all this rain. Gentry and I have been trying to hunt but it's to dang muddy to even get into our spots much less hunt. Kinda been a blessing in disguise for my yellow dog I brought by your house though. He got wrecked about 3 1/2 weeks ago. I figure he will be good by the time we get some dry ground.
Title: Re: Gardens Post by: Black Streak on May 13, 2015, 11:36:25 am If it's still raining and extremely wet when I get back home in a week, then I'll fish till it dries out enough to get back in the garden and to get back to catching pigs.
Title: Re: Gardens Post by: mike rogers on May 13, 2015, 04:12:43 pm mines flat. we've had several big hail storms, but that last one beat it up pretty flat. A few things will be ok and grow back. taters and squash wont... their flat as they can be...
Title: Re: Gardens Post by: halfbreed on May 13, 2015, 09:39:43 pm man that's bad mike , I've had mine beat down several times when I lived in Waxahachie . mine is kind of stunted as of now we need some sunshine bad ,
Title: Re: Gardens Post by: mike rogers on May 16, 2015, 10:08:46 pm I'm digging the taters. Aint a leaf on them and I'm afraid their gonna rot because of the rain. Gonna replant a few things tomorrow.

Been eating lettuce for a long time now, the cauliflower not down great, broc is doing OK trying to flower now but not getting very big. Cabbage is big but not making heads yet. The carrots and squash it looking great should have squash later this week. But my cucumber did not come up at time to re plant and keep spraying weeds
