Title: cross breeding hogs--- feral to domestic. question Post by: justincorbell on May 31, 2015, 05:01:33 pm I have a boar hog at the house i have raised from a shoat and I am wanting to breed him to a domestic sow purely to raise and eat/ mess with around the house, not looking to breed em to turn em loose. In ya'lls opinion what breed sow should I look for? any particular breed better than the other as far as table fare and raising? I've raised a buncha hogs but they have all been of the feral variety ;D

Not the new style though and DO NOT use the show hog lines. Use the old school style. My father in law is a hig farmer and we've had this discussion before. Google John Brown durocs. He has both kinds, New and old, you can tell the difference big time. New ones are to short and fat with bad feet and bones. They are just for looks for the show ring. Old style is the way to go.
Title: Re: cross breeding hogs--- feral to domestic. question Post by: Curcross1987 on June 01, 2015, 02:20:51 pm The show hogs I have been around have better bone and feet then your average hog and tend to longer leaner hogs that tend to grow all around better than your average hog would be the only way I would go I got several hamp x York crosses that I cross over a woods boar hog and the pigs grow fast with litter size around 10 to a litter most of the pigs come looking likes beefed up black woods hog just my way don't mean it's the only way
