Title: Tech Question for all you Garmin Experts! Post by: YELLOWBLACKMASK on June 06, 2015, 06:59:53 pm Figure there is tons of info on here about both systems, but guess I am to lazy to sift through pages upon pages trying to piece together some simple questions.
Recently fried my 220 and a couple of Dc40 collars. First question is anyone working on the 40's for a reasonable rate vs buying a new or used one? Second question is Alpha vs Astro 320. Pro and cons and what is reasonable price for a like new one from private individual. Keep in mind I don't care if it cooks the eggs with the pancakes.....just want to be able to run my remaining 40's but upgrade from my 220. Any info is always appreciated gents! Title: Re: Post by: spazhogdog on June 06, 2015, 08:01:44 pm The alpha will not work with the 40 collars. I have a 320 and have no issues. I run the 30, 40 and 50 collars with it. I don't run a shock system so I don't need alpha.

Title: Re: Tech Question for all you Garmin Experts! Post by: Bo Pugh on June 07, 2015, 09:45:48 pm I do not own a alpha but the people i know that do own them like them a lot they say. The reason I don't own a alpha is because I have 10 collars 30s 40s and 50s and won't none of them work with the alpha and I didn't want to buy a whole new set up as it's pretty expensive just to want to upgrade and the 320 and collars I have work for me
Title: Re: Tech Question for all you Garmin Experts! Post by: Judge peel on June 08, 2015, 09:24:34 am I would go with the 320 my buddy has the alpha looks like he is trying to break nasa codes just to track a dog lol but then again I ain't big on computers or games

Post by: l.h.cracker on June 08, 2015, 09:40:14 am If you send your broken dc40 back to garmin they will replace it for $79 broken dc30's for $120 so much cheaper and you know how long they last.320 seems to do just fine although the trash breaker option on the alpha is nice for sure. You have to call garmin and do your exchange on the phone before mailing collars.
Title: Re: Tech Question for all you Garmin Experts! Post by: Mike on June 08, 2015, 10:08:05 am Sell that old stuff and get the Alpha. I've had mine for two years and love it... I was picking up a dog last weekend at 2.28 miles in the flooded a East Texas timber. That's with strait factory antennas. Plus, with the Tri-Tronics built in... all your tracking and training needs are in one unit and one collar.
Title: Re: Tech Question for all you Garmin Experts! Post by: 7Mhunter on June 08, 2015, 10:53:35 am We have Both. Alpha an 320. Recently sold my 220. My favorite is the alpha. But we run shock collars on the pups so it helps us. Always gunna be that one dog that you cant catch lol the alpha fixes that problem. But not only do i like the alpha better their collars are better to me. But i do have a 40 that tracks like an old school beeper hardly ever loose that collar. Alpha is just high. But i traded a 320 an 5 collars for mine an dont regret it one bit! Go with the alpha! If you dont want shock collars on it just go with the T5 an alpha handheld!
Title: Re: Tech Question for all you Garmin Experts! Post by: YELLOWBLACKMASK on June 08, 2015, 12:13:58 pm Well I guess I can deduce the questions since my post. Found a 320 local that I got a heck of a deal on. So in process of swapping sim cards and what not over from 220. I liked the Alpha but they wanted my first born and a date with the wife to hand one over. Lol
Is Garmin still offering a credit for 30's for trade in on 40's ? No more than I am getting to hunt these days....was considering going back to the blowing horn and hoot and holler system. Title: Re: Tech Question for all you Garmin Experts! Post by: UNDERDOG on June 08, 2015, 01:54:07 pm YBM.... one thing i found hunting with make and travis is that the 320 wont work around the alpha.
Title: Re: Tech Question for all you Garmin Experts! Post by: YELLOWBLACKMASK on June 08, 2015, 02:01:28 pm Well guess I am safe then Bryant. All my hunting partners are cheap #@$%%# lol.
But good to know. We have had a problem in the past with all these collars bleeding over to other systems. Title: Re: Tech Question for all you Garmin Experts! Post by: charles on June 08, 2015, 02:18:59 pm Im with you myles, they want the first born, an arm and half a leg for the alpha. Just to dang expensive for as much as i hunt. But if i hunted as much some folks do and could actually justifying spending $1500-2000 for the unit n collars, i might go to an alpha but i dont see that happening anytime in the next 3-5
Title: Re: Post by: Fixitlouie on June 20, 2015, 07:51:09 pm Ybm. You can try mine out Mike dont take me hunting no more..ill even throw in my wife and a kid...but I want the alpha back..
