Title: antibiotics ?
Post by: halfbreed on September 30, 2015, 09:27:11 am
ok boys and girls I was on one of the chicken sites and a fellow was asking about the new usda rules on civilians obtaining antibiotics over the shelf without a vet prescription . anybody heard this . it is supposed to become effective in January this year from what they were saying  . I tried looking it up but I have a hard time reading and understanding the '' bills '' language they use .   but it does involve any antibiotics that both human and animals use .

Yes it is true. Most of the antibiotic that are also used to treat people will only be availible thru vets. No more over the counter. Even cattle ranches will have to go thru a vet. It will basically be like regular prescription. You only get amount prescribed for what ever condition. No buying in bulk.

I remember when they pulled the triple antibiotic off the shelves...I was hoping this would not happen...Doctors and vets are losing too much business...money has to be the bottom line as it usually is in most situations of this type...I wonder what the excuse was to do this?

I think it may be more than that. I believe its a way to take just a lil more of our independence away.  Time to stock up

They claim the reason is to prevent virus resistance to antibiotics do to either over medication or poor medication handling. Thing is far more prescription drugs are flushed down a toilet than what dog horse and cattle folks ever think of using.

U got me there cause I sure said that wrong. A virus constantly mutates which renders any type antibiotic completely useless. All u can do is vaccinate and hope the antibodies in the animal is stronger than any version of the virus u come into contact with.

I think the restriction is uncalled for. The cattle man and dog man doesn't hold a candle to the DR in an office providing antibiotics for the common cold.
