 do any of yaw raise either one of these breeds? for those who have other hardy breeds but NO fighting breeds, do yaws roosters high step so to speak? my rooster seems to high step, as if his "ankles" won't bend and walks stiff legged and high steps as he walks.

Other than fighting chickens, just before and during a fight, have i ever seen a rooster walk stiff legged like he does. He may be struting all the time bc he is the only rooster in charge of 8 hens. My nxt coop build will be able to house 50-60 or maybe even double those numbers completely indoors.

Judge it's right, I've got a big Rhode island red rooster that stiff legs about 80 percent of the time.
Does he stiff leg even while you feeding them?
And not to change the subject but I got some buff Brahma hens last year that I like better than any I've ever been around.

Cleve I like those buffs. You ever the lights they make a nice big ole hen bout 10 lbs. there are so many breeds to chose from lol

Yes, during feeding time and any other time I see him walking around, he walks stiff legged. Hopefully this spring they actually hatch out their eggs and I get my 50-60 head, but I'm gonna have to buy another rooster and maybe some more chicks, just not sure what breed other than what I already got they can cross out, unless chickens are like any other animal in that species, can cross with other breeds/lines. I'm wanting chickens that I can turn loose and they will feed their selves for the most part with minimal interaction from me, and turn them looses on my land.

For egg production we have had real good luck with Rhode Island reds, sex links, australorps, and barred rocks. We did get some mutts one time that were some sort of polish mix and they were some laying machines.  Just ugly as hell. We've got some Wyandotte hens that do pretty good as well. There real pretty birds.

10/4 judge, I've seen the lights but never had any.
GH, I have one sex link and she started laying again only 3 weeks after she hatched out her bitties, but I've had good luck out of the RIR BB and SL, but if you want minimum interaction I would go with Banny/Bantams.

So them bantams are good free range and hardy birds with good egg production?

Small eggs but yes on everything

Thats the only reason I don't keep bantams. I want large eggs.

I feed a lot of folks so I like the big eggs and a lot the RR or production red x Americana are good layers to size and feed intake. And look decent
