Title: Dog feed
Post by: NLAhunter on October 10, 2016, 01:44:46 pm
Was just curious what everyone else was feeding and results seen from different feed. I was feeding sport mix had good luck out of it for good while few dogs got to where they just wouldn't eat it. After that I switched to show time at first went good all eating it good then had few dogs start breaking out get skin problems and couple quit eating it all together so I switched to Victor stated feeding hi pro plus was hunting a lot then this was in spring when I switch to Victor all my skin troubles cleared up they all eat it really good and look good hold up good and don't have to feed a lot. This summer wasn't hunting as much so older dogs eating Victor maintenance formula done good on it and few young dogs I mix the maintenance with high pro plus and they doing good on it and really like it. So I going stick with this Victor for now

I only have 2 dogs and I feed purina pro plan 30/20 . Every bird hunting competition I go to they have something to do with it . They do more for working dogs then any other dog food I can think of

I like to support that

went from sportsmix for many years to diamond hi energy for a few...seems like the dogs poop attracted more flies and sometimes it was runny stools and in the summer I had to cut way back so dogs wouldn't get over weight...on the diamond

my dogs are back on sportsmix 24/20 for the last 2 years or so...

I have been feeding victor 30/20 and Victor 26/18 and I love it.It's more expensive but goes a long way and the dog's seem to perform well on it.

Victor 24/20 red bag for adult dogs. Victor 30/20 baby blue bag for pups. Switch pups over to the 24/20 red bag around 6 months. Been feedin it for about 5 years. No issues. Nice firm stool. Easy clean up. Dogs seem to stay regular and empty out easily as long as you don't feed them too much. It is a little pricey but it seems to be worth it. Dogs have good energy on it. It is calorie dense feed so u have to watch how much u feed a dog with it. They'll blow up quick and run hot if u feed too much of it.

I know a lot of guys who feed sportmix that swear by it. I have thought about tryin it out but Victor has been workin too well to change. I only feed a few dogs. If I fed more I might consider something a little cheaper.

Chris will agree with you on that pro plan use to feed it to my labs and always had real good luck with it. Only lab I got now is about 7 this year I been feeding her victor maintenance since spring when I switch to victor and she does real good on it to she acts like a 2 year old instead of 7

Been feedin victor for bout a year now my dogs do well on it. I feed the yellow bag during the hot months and switch to the red or purple wen it gets real cold and we have the dogs out runnin the most. my hound is a lil thin on the yellow bag but he runs a lot more miles than the rest.

Black Gold Performance Blend 26-18.  I hunt my dogs harder than you most everyone that I know and the dogs still look pretty good.  When I am lion hunting in the mountains from 4 days to a week (every day) and putting 20-40 miles on them every day, I supplement them with Dog Forte.  The Dog Forte seems to help with stress and keeps them eating when they are exhausted.
Adios,
Gary

Over the last 30 years I've tried most all of it and Victor stuck with Victor, the yellow bag in the off season and red are green bag during hog hunting season. It's proven it's self.

,some only feed a few dogs,,then there's  someone like me that feeds 20  plus head of dogs .... so far my opinion and I haven't tried them all but the high performance diamond fed every other day works real good specially in the summer when they don't move much cause  of heat they will get real fat and slick ....  anyone feeding cheap feed and your dogs look dingy and thick haired and you have  to tell your buddies they have  some kind  of worm I'm just saying try 3  things ivomec and safeguard monthly and feed the diamond every day for about 4 days then every other day after ....see what happens ....it puts my feed bill from 30 bucks a bag to 15 by feeding ration difference .... I bet  you'll like it .....

Mr. Parker, I'm with you on the ivermecdad monthly and I use the liquid safeguard 1st day 7cc second day 5cc and 3rd d3cc. Usually just do it once and at the most twice a year and it keeps my dogs clean. Idk if your feeding the purple bag are green bag of diamond. But you can feed the Victor every other day if you choose to and the dog will still look good.

I;m feeding the 24/20 high performance I think its a maroon looking but I call it red anyway I'm sure there's other feed that will do real well fed every other day but  victor here is higher than the diamond I buy ......diamond is about 29 a bag here before tax ....

Title: Re: Dog feed
Post by: Semmes on October 26, 2016, 10:46:08 pm
I fed diamond hi perf  marron bag tractor supply for 4 yrs strait and had bud that fed the retriever blue bag  from tractor supply and still does far as I know and it's no real difference from the river run I been feeding for çouole years now in quality and ingredients, bit my dogs have better stools on river run. I fed victor before that and there is no comparison. Victor is hands down better and less waste and better digestion meaning less consumption. But I'm a poor man.. And if I'm gonna Feed any of the cheap stuff I find river run just good as the rest. If I had the money I would biy victor and if I have a preg gyp or pups I'll fork iut xtra for the victor. But as far as daily matainence in adult dogs I see no difference in condition or ingredients between diamond high energy, retriever or river run hy pro. Just my stools better on river run

Varience of runs seems ongoing problem I have with diamond feeds as well. Decade ago I fed nutin but diamond naturals chicken and rice. But just like with the high energy lower wuality feed u had varience of stools on bags in occasion, and an overall stinkier runier stool compared to
Other primary corn based products like river run. Def not the best bit does me better for the money. If I had more money tho victor would be Way to go

well my son was feeding blue bag retriever and I have dogs in pens  and when I fed  retriever the stools where not good with the retriever feed and my son switched to diamond  it is a better feed then retriever  I have  fed  both same dogs same pens ........ all stools with the diamond in my pens roll out like golf ball's ....

Title: Re: Dog feed

I tried diamond high energy for a few years because the price was right...if you over feed just a little and the turds will get runny...not to mention it smells like catfish bait...

Sportsmix 24/20 is priced right and the dogs stools tend to be firm and don't draw new as many flies as diamond...

A dog on a chain that can go round and round it don't really matter he keeps his own mess cleaned up.
I remember when all the dogs got to eat was a few scraps and stained dish water. And anytimethree there was a pile of scraps dumped outthree dogs was at different corners of the Pasteur burying a little something for later. Lol

sense you mentioned a dog burying  scraps  made  me think of an old red  brindle dog daddy had  years ago named red ....we butchered ever winter  cause  my  daddy would make a bunch and sell it for Christmas money .....anyway old red would pack and bury butchered hog  scraps  like feet , ears and such ...you might see him a  mile  from the house  packing a hog ear  hahaha....were we  had the old sawmill he liked  burying  in the saw  dust ....if another  dog ventured  out there red would run  it off and  go dig up  some of his  stash nearest to that and re bury it  hahahah ......
