EAST TEXAS HOG DOGGERS FORUM

We went hunting last night...or rather early this morning with Setexasplott at a place of his with rice fields. Sorry Mex, Setexasplott came up with the title. LOL  It was me (djhogdogger), my husband James (Catahoula_Cur), my mother (Janice), and a friend who had never hunted with dogs before (Cy Sittig), Todd (Setexasplott) and his gf (Mary Kay). We set the dogs loose and they winded and took off. They were all gone for a while, we drove towards the direction of the dogs and were sitting and listening for a bay and Setexasplott (Todd) put another dog on the ground (can't remember the dogs name) he ran out a couple hundred yards and bayed up. He was baying like crazy but the other dogs were all over 900 yds away. He turned his rcd (Sojo) loose and in a minute we could here a big ole' hog grunting, so we figured it was a good one. We hauled butt to the bay, everyone baled off the wheelers with Todd leading the pack. The hog had crossed a small creek and was on the edge of the woods. Sojo was caught on the ear and the hog was putting up a good fight. Todd hollered back to James to turn another cd loose. James unclipped our cd (Ammo) and he caught on the other ear. The guys all crossed the creek and Todd flipped the hog, James tied it and Cy started grabbing dogs. Turned out to be a gritty ole' sow (guessing 150 lbs). By the time we loaded the hog and got all those rangey dogs caught up it was about 4am. So we decided not to go after another one. We put that sow in our bay pen and she is raunchier than any boar hog. LOL  Thank you Todd, for taking us on a great hunt. We all had a great time. ;D

That was a heck of a hunt, but could have done with out having to cross the creek. The funny thing was me, Todd, and Cy was all dry when we crossed the creek going to the hog. It was when we crossed back over is when we got wet, and we crossed the same spot that we came across. But it was worth every moment just to see the look on Cy face, on his first hog hunt with dogs.

all yall need to dust your break sticks off, cause this saturday night i'm bringing setxplott to a virgin rice field in winnie off I-10. land owners son said he can put some corn out and pick which hog he wants to shoot in the evening.  it's never been dogged!! i sure would like some help! mex, you coming? i'm bringing the video camera with night vision. land owner will be present, so all yall need to be on your best behavior! haha...ohh, and only two dogs a piece.

 Say Mex, Cody, Heath, and Stoked. I should have know to bring my swimming trunks, because in every pic or just about every pic that Todd (setexasplott) has posted everyone is wet from having to swim a canal, or a creek. I going to do what Stoked said and start bring a blow up raft and a paddle when I go hunting with Todd (setexasplott).

I have an air-bed that sits about 2' off the ground. also have a quick pump that runs off 4 huge D batteries i think. I can inflate the whole bed in less than 5 minutes. I'm positive it sits high enough that you would not even get wet. would carry 2 people easily at one time. we'll put a small rope on in with a throw weight to send it back to the other side.

All i know is, it's fixing to get cold!!! I aint swimming nothing... ;D

what are scared of a little water . just bring extra clothes yall will be ok .........ps me and mex worked some pups today i cant wait to see the pics we had some plotts and a couple of super dogs (dogos) ;D ;D

I tried to get you to go to the back of that rice field 2 days ago to hit that heard of hogs that's in the back corner, and todd's reply sounded something like this.

"I ain't gettin' on them hogs back there, they run all dang night!"  "there's too many in there and im not getting wet again."

Then he trys to cover up his fear of water be saying...

"I'm after one hog tonight, and the dogs would have winded if he was here."

son u hunt with me long enough i will learn you something . i catch enough that i will pick when i am gonna swim and to catch a big boar that you know comes in and out of an area and you know where he will be its just a matter of time . any body can chase small change but going after one track might take a hunt r two but dont worry i'll get him .remember this LUCK IS PREPARATION MEETING OPPURTUNITY

the hunt is being called off for this sat though...the land owner is currently in west texas playing with whitetail. he said he would be back by saturday morning and now it looks like he might not. we'll have to do it another time...maybe next weekend or the following.

it's a duck lease that's kinda small about 1200 acres. we're trying to get premission to some land around it just in case the dogs run off the lease. might be better to wait a couple weeks.

sorry we can't hunt it this weekend. it's out of my hands..

I have a few places on the neches, but i've dogged em recently and talked to the land owners today and they said they haven't seen anything fresh lately. I'll probably give it a few more weeks.

I do have some tony houseman land to hunt, but I can only go with my buddy who knows em. Sometimes he's so tied up with work and his kids, he can't go a lot. I'll try to contact him tomorrow.

Mex, You have any fresh places? Somebody pm me if you want to go hunting this weekend.

If not, I'm probably gonna make a hunt behind my hospital. Big toothy is still back there somewhere, and I have premission to all the land directly behind and a little bit down the road behind a feedstore where they saw a moster of a hog here recently. They have the pic too. They been sweeping feed out the backdoor of the warehouse and wonder why the pigs are rooting up the field behind them. ;D
