Title: One eyed Dog
Post by: T-Bob Parker on March 01, 2017, 08:38:35 am
How many have had a dog lose an eye? How much did it change them?
I've got a young dog who has hit the ground running since he was a pup and this weekend he got a locust tree or probably wild lemon tree thorn right in his eyeball, and that sucker is gone, no saving it.

I wouldn't imagine it hurting him trailing and baying... imo

Had a bulldog get her eye knocked out and it really didn't phase her during the the day but at night she seemed to lose her depth perception and started missing a lot, but really couldn't tell much difference during the day

That sucks I seem some that it didn't effect that much on the hunting and some it did. But a lost eye ain't no good

Matt Bittick has black gyp that is 1 eyed. I'm not sure that it changed her much. I had a bulldog that was 1 eyed for a while and he kept on clicking along until I got him healed up.

My dad use to have a foundation bred dog that lost an eye to a fish hook as a pup. He was off working alot and the guy that bred the litter lost his pups and came and bought him back as a 2 year old and he went to finding hogs in no time. He only got to hunt him for a year or so, he noticed that he did fine with one or 2 hogs bayed but would get wrecked out every time he would bay a rally. He ended up retiring him early and used him as a stud dog till he died.
