Title: Helping couple young Yankees get on a hog!
Post by: Semmes on March 17, 2017, 08:42:49 am
I got a friend from the American bulldog world that I have corresponded with for years. He got me a dog years back when a mutual friend of ours that lived in fla died in a motor cycle accident. It made a a dang good dog for me and I have been sending updates and pics to him for many years now...
Anyway this guy lives in Massachusetts. He and his buds bear hunt in Maine with hounds and he has sent me pics over the years.
He had mentioned on quite few times he would love to hog hunt with dogs and if he ever got a chance to make it down here would I be willing to take him out. I alwYs agreed we'd set something up if he could make it here.
Well, couple weeks ago he asked me a favor...
His nephew, a young guy (like 18 I think) is going into the service and his basic training starts may15 and these two guys want to mKe a hog hunt before he goes to basic training. (Trying out for the navy seals)
I told him the turkey season dates in my area and that my partners and I stay out of the woods on our spots at that time.
We set a date. He had a commitment with the navy on the 16th. So they are driving all the way down here and will be here tmrw evening, the 18th and getting a room in Baton Rouge. They have his truck and are mobile.
He is staying through the 24th. Turkey season starts the 25th.
We are taking him out tommorw night after they get here.
My hunting partners and I work during the week and I told him we didn't hunt during week so he knows that. My partner works plant job and is off next Friday the last day they are here and is gonna try and get em out then as well.
I have been tryn like heck to line stuff up with other local guys that hunt as well to bring these two guys out through this next week just tryn increase their odds on getn on hogs and seeing more of LA and meeting other good Louisiana folks and watching dogs work.
Well had couple folks back out on me last couple days...
I still got a bud gonna possibly take em on a good hunt like 3hrs from br on a nice pc of property.
Another friend is gonna see if he can get away during the week and get em on another night hunt...
These guys don't mind driving a little. (Heck they driving from Mass)
Anyway they have no concept about what Louisiana is like except what they see on swamp people on tv lol
He actually asked me if I lived on the bayou last week lol
Well I live in tunic hills close to st francisville.
If anyone hunts during the week in north la or out in marsh down south and would mind letting these guys tag along it would be awesome... Really would love to see em get out on the marsh in a boat but it's not critical just any help would be appreciated. They wanted to visit NO one of the days. I told em what I thought of the place and to not wander too far off the tourist track...
I'd really like to keep em in the woods and fill up there visit with that.
Guy said he don't mind hunting hard and understands it's hunting and nothing comes with guarantee of a kill. Said he help drag bear out of the mountains in Maine with his uncle ( my friend Mike) so they ought be able to drag a hog.
Anyway just pm me here if you'd be interested and I'll try and coordinate it with them and the other couple guys already signed on..
