Title: Rock in dog yard?
Post by: c dunn on October 24, 2018, 09:56:05 pm
I’m wanting to fix my dog yard up.  I keep my dogs on chain and tired of em digging holes.  I was wondering if any of y’all have your dogs on rock.  I just want it to look nice and sanitary.  Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Crushed granite. If you got a skid steer or tractor and can get it packed. It’s done well for us here at the ranch. Easy cleaning

I have been to several places that used smooth river rock and they swore by it.

Crush n run works too, when it rains on it, it hardens up almost, but not quite as hard as concrete

Might can spread some gravel, lay out the area you want and spread your gravel and mix Portland in it to harden up and bind together, it’s way cheaper than pouring a slab and if you ever wanted to do away with it it wouldn’t be a major undertaking, and easy to clean up, we’ve poured several smaller non load bearing slabs at the camp by going to to the sand bar and getting a scoop of real gravelly sand and mixing the Portland in with a small tiller and smoothing it off with a 2x4 as we went, they actually turned out very nice, and the biggest one we did was 10x30 and we might have had 300$ at the very max tied up in it and that’s counting form boards, bags of Portland and the beer and food we cooked and drank while making it...

Pea pebble rock is great for clean up. It might not necessarily help with a digger. I caution cheap rock as
I have seen tire pads with rocks in a chain spots. I personally like think rock in a chain spot would be a constant battle since most chain set ups will just push the rocks out when the dog works the chain.

Just my 2 cents
