Lost my best gyp this week she was just turning 5 in April she was perfectly fine Wednesday evening about dark and dead in her pen at dinner time on Thursday no ideal what happened to her she was healthy as could be and in real good shape she will surely be missed around here she has been a dependable hog dog since 1 year old seem to always know where to go to find a hog and get bayed or run him all day if she had to and then bay him smart dog that all ways seemed like she knew what I was thinking I am glad I went on and bred her and got one litter out of her but it sure be hard to replace her rip Wilma(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200217/43aac538014628ee98dbe3e083bda271.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200217/156d955523cd9a882a45069b22dd86a7.jpg)(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200217/0c8f0e9aa4631e5f612fe35d438b0bc3.jpg)

Man, them days are no fun. Hoping the pups turn out

I lost two jam up year to 2 old pups due to timber rattlers coming in the yard and put a whooping on them. Fed at 7pm that night and by 9am the next morning they were gone. Check all around the area near your dogs. We found the snakes months later living the the walls of a barn 300 yards from where we kept dogs. Hope you can find out what caused the loss because it stuck in the back of my head until we found those damn snakes!

Hate to hear that. The good ones are gone all to soon. I wonder if bloat can kill a dog that fast? I had a gyp perfectly healthy, had a litter of 5 week old pups, she ate the night before and I found her dead the next morning. I know sick dogs do not eat and she showed no sign of being sick. Just think it had to be bloat or a heart attack, something quick.

That's kinda what I was thinking it was something that happened fast like heart attack

Sure hate to see that man. A couple years back I lost my best dog in his prime the same way. Out of the blue, someday he was fine, the next morning he was dead on his chain. It's a huge kick in the nuts when it happens but it happens.

Cajun I’m curious as to what you were referring to as bloat? Asking because I’m only trying to learn. About three years ago I lost a Catahoula in the matter of a couple hours. We were out in West Texas on a three day hunt I had put the dogs up in boxes for the night. When we got him out that morning he drink a lot of water. We drove to the ranch and when we got ready to go hunting I noticed he was not acting right acted kind of tender. Of course I left him in the truck we came back two hours later and he was dead.  His abdomen looked swollen and looked like it was bruised almost purple on his skin. Very healthy dog otherwise the only thing I could think of is he drank too much water and twisted his gut or had some kind of bloat. Does this sound like what you’re talking about?

Man,,   I hate that for you man,...   We try to prepare ourselves to loose em in the woods but when you don't know the reason behind it ,, it sure hurts worst..     I lost one of my best gyps ive ever owned last October due to a word I cant hardly spell...  Pyometria I believe the word is...  From what I understand from the vet, its due to a infection in the uterus …  Don't know if your gyp had just went out of heat cycle or not..   The vet told me ,, it usually hits about a month after she goes out...   Sorry for your loss man,, the good ones always die to young for sure..

I know Bloat can wrap around some of the organs and cause the heart to stop and kill them quickly.

Yeah,, it was about 6 weeks after mine went out...  he told me that's why he recommends running a antibiotic thru em after every heat cycle....  I had never heard of that in all my yrs but I can promise you if I don't breed a gyp and she finishes her cycle ,, she will be on infection meds for 10 days..

Bloat is the common name for a condition known as gastric dilatation and volvulus or GDV. GDV occurs when a dog's stomach begins filling up with gas, which causes it to expand and swell. This puts pressure on the dog's lungs and other organs, which can cause difficulty breathing and other problems. Eventually, the stomach will flip and twist, which can damage the walls. Bloat is a very dangerous and painful condition that will ultimately be fatal without treatment.

Very similar when a horse colics.

I hate this for you. As said already. The good ones go way too soon.

very odd, I had the same thing happen to me with the best dog ive owned at 5 yrs old as well last yr. Perfectly happy and healthy wanting to hunt saturday, dead sunday morning without a scratch on her
