Let’s hear about em!

The black pups are off my Blackie gyp which is 1/2 Parker 1/4 catahoula 1/8bmc 1/8 plott and the male is my Gator dog which is 1/2 Mellman

The colorful pups are off a Gyp of mine that I’ve had for about 9 year now and she’s 1/2 cat 1/4 bmc 1/4 pit bred back to a dog from a buddy that been line breeding some dogs for a quite a while and always had good luck with them.

I bet that blue leopard pup is not going anywhere. They look good scotty.

This my first litter of BMC in a long while I bred my duke dog back to his first cousin to attempt to get my twisted dog blood back well basically the blade x Petra blood that Bobby buff had started the mom to these pups is out of twisted full brother and Ben gyp duke is out of twisted x Morgan.. I lost twisted about a year or so ago and that hit me pretty hard but I was able to get duke back and he has stepped in and done the job the gyp had a litter of 6 4 males 2 females which I will be keeping all to start from bottom up I have high hopes for these pups if there anything like there grandpa it will be a big score but time will tell and so far my future looks a litt bright just need to put the time and effort in them

Lol.  I do think they are going to be rough, maybe too rough for likings.  I killed that hog earlier in the day in front of one bay dog and I brought her home to butcher.  I couldn't resist letting the pups check her out.  This was the first hog they have ever seen.

Scotty and BA-IV I have always liked the way those mellman dogs sounded I know I have seen a lot hogs on here with them dogs involved.

Cajun how you expect them to operate are these some of the ones headed towards more mouth less Grit you been shooting for?

Cracker, These should be some fast long range, silent plotts with plenty of grit and cold noses.  Just kidding, lol The mother is medium to cold nose with plenty of hunt. she is what I call average gritty. She is a great bay dog but just catches when the bulldog gets there or the other Plotts catch. She is fast and will make any race. She is tight mouth tho.
  The Daddy to them is Showtime. He is a cold nose, go yonder type of dog. He has had plenty of cuttings and has learned to back up and bay. You never know what you will get but time will tell.

Those are all some great looking pups fellas.

Well I had a litter born today. Looks like theirs around 10 pups. Didn’t want to bother her much tonight. This is a second cross of these 2 dogs. The gyp is my Ginger dog which is mostly cur with a touch of plott and the dad is buddy of mines Ninja dog that’s 1/2 GSP 1/2 plott. The previous litter is a lil over a yr old and doing well. Pics to come soon.

Those ought to be some goodens, lol. What does the site look like? I bet he’s a good looking rascal.

He’s mostly black with a white spot on his chest. As much as I hunt with him I don’t even have a pic on my new phone of him. Got a head count today after work and it was 10 pups, 5 brindles, 4 black wh brindle mask and legs and 1 solid black.

All of you should have plenty to choose from

These are a week old today. Had 10, raised 9 so far. 7 males, 2 females. 4 brindles, 3 black wh brindle mask and trim, 1 not sure if it’s gonna be chocolate or turn brindle and 1 that’s black wh a white spot on his chest. Ginger found a good job again raising her pups. Hopefully this litter turns out like the last. Only 2 left that’s not spoken for.

Watching puppies run and explore like that is one of my favorite things to do. Those are excellent looking pups. I gotta ask, are the tails short or is that my old eyes lying to me again because they will do. After I shaved yesterday they told me I was a handsome son of a gun!

I like it! My old Vegas dog got bit on the tail about six inches from the base and I couldn’t get it to heal for anything. I finally docked it about 2” from the base. Best thing I ever did. No more whip in the face when he was riding the front rack of the wheeler lol.

Well Raylynn popped. She had 12 or 14 I haven’t dug around to count yet there’s a pile of them. Genetics are funny, as far back as the walker blood is I got what looks like 3 little walkers in the group. Raylynn is black with Brindle trim and Uno the sire and her nephew is brindle. He almost had a saddleback look as a pup but outgrew it. His litter was the one I figured Cajun’s dog snuck over to Georgia and sired. I figured a predominately brindle litter but I guess one of Mike’s dogs  crawled through the bedroom window and fathered this litter. They are dang near everyone some version of black.  From solid black to blk/tan, blk/brindle trim, blk/ white points and only a couple brindle and then the 3 walker dogs. It really was an accidental breeding, he dug in. I was planning on making the cross just not yet. Uno is still on probation but doing good when I get to hunt him. He’s been cut nearly every because he’s pretty salty. I’m hoping he gets smart before dead. He found and bayed his own hog the second cast of his first hunt and several since. T dog It is very possible. Ole Hillbilly makes some pretty wide loops when you cast him. lol But it looks to me, that some Boder collie got in there and beat Ole Uno to the punch.  JK, It could sure be a blessing as those gritty dogs seem to have a short life and all it takes is one lucky shot by a hog. Good luck with them.

BA-IV I think about it the same way you do. I’ve had these same dogs for about 25 years. I can usually predict what I’m gonna get with pretty good accuracy. Although I was off with the colors of this litter lol. When I looked at them earlier though, some of the ones I thought were black are gonna be dark brindles. So I wasn’t AS far off the mark lol.

T-dog, how is that raylynn dog bred, as far as what breeds are mixed up in there? She looks like she has some serious running gear. How do your dogs typically hunt as far as range, style, grit, etc? They surely look like they produce!

Growing fast and getting gritty! Lol!! Turned 4 weeks old today.

Golden those pups are beautiful and it looks like you and the momma have done well by them.

Raylynn and Uno are both line bred dogs out this family of Cat/Walker cross that I’ve been raising for a good many years. I have been trying to keep bite, brains, and speed as 3 of my top breeding characteristics, but not the only 3 lol. They are fast but the more important speed is the track pushing speed and they have that. They hunt out pretty good. If a young doesn’t leave right off with them then they likely won’t see them again until they are put up bayed. Usually they will get out as far as they need to to get into sign. I have seen them go against the wind and bay hogs a mile away like someone told them where they were. They are very natural about hunting into the wind and find a large number of hogs that way but will also run head up on good tracks. They have enough want to that they will drop their heads and grub out a colder track too. I don’t honestly know what their cold track potential is because we have a high concentration of hogs. I’m not sure how they do it but I think I’ve only seen a hog found behind Ava and Raylynn one time and I know 100% that they left on a track that they hit before getting to spot where the hog was found and yes they finished that track and produced a boar that we caught. My Ava gyp is even faster than her momma Raylynn and the snakiest dog I’ve ever seen in the brush. They will bite the South bound end of a north bound hog if they can but they aren’t suicidal. Uno is in the education phase of that part. I’m hoping he’s a good student. Depending on which dogs are bred together as to what colors I get. Most of them are the same dogs in different colored wrappers meaning the type is consistent just not color. I like a variety of colors anyway.

T-dog sounds like you have all the traits you need. Those are some speedy looking dogs.

T-Dog, thanks for the run down. I love hearing details about a line of dogs. Especially when the man that has them can tell you all of their traits, hunting style, etc.. I try to focus on my dogs in that sort of detail, I think it sets you way ahead when it comes to learning and making dogs as opposed to just walking through the woods without paying much attention to them until they stop a pig, which Ive seen a lot of people do. I’ve seen people I know breed a dog just because it finds hogs, but never even take the time to notice if they run with their head up or down, if they drift the track, how hot or cold of tracks they’re taking, etc.. that’s the stuff that really interests me. I like to be a student of the dogs, that’s the only reason I hunt, is to enjoy observing dogs work and studying them.

Thanks T-dog and Cajun. We’ve got high hopes for them. I took 2 from previous litter Monday and one of em bayed a hog solo until we could get around. Unfortunately the hog broke after we sent the cds but that’s hunting. Cajun, never know these could go back to some of yours. Lol!! These pups grandmother was a full blooded plott but not sure what line she was out of. My buddy is no longer with us that owned her. I’m just trying to keep our line of dogs going along with one other buddy of ours.

Thanks guys, they aren’t perfect and for sure every pup doesn’t make it but the percentage is high and I enjoy them and not ashamed of them most days, lol. I was talking to my 10 year old a couple days ago about baseball and life and what it takes to be great. I told him to pick anyone in any sport, profession, hobby, etc. that thought deserved to be called great and I would show him that that individual was a student of whatever it was that they were great at. I tried to explain that God given talent would only get anyone or anything so far. The great ones had a fire and a passion for that particular thing and so they studied it from every angle they could. They did it because they wanted to do it not because they had to. I’m not a great dog man or hog hunter but maybe before I die or it’s outlawed I will be. I say this because you said you were a student of the dogs which tells me that given the chance you will likely have a set of dogs that set the bar high just like Cajun’s plott dogs.

That’s a sharp looking one Cajun. And you could not have said it better, they all don’t make it.

I’ve just came in from kennels with the kiddos and talking about picking pups and like I told em I’d it’s just luck of draw sometimes. I try and watch em all to see if I think I see certain things I like but it’s still a gamble. Lol!!

SJ. Somewhere between 3 and 4 months old. Packed her along all last weekend hog hunting. First spot she hung out at Tim’s truck and we went and caught a little hog. 2nd spot we dumped out sketch bayed a group. SJ went with rest of dogs and was in the mix looking for something to bark at. She made it to the caught hog. Surprised me and my buddies, and she is a character so she makes for a good laugh as well. She’s smart, she’s gonna get a chance to make a really good dog I think.

Muddy this is the 2nd time we’ve made this cross. 1st litter is about 16 months old and doing real good job! They are 1/4 gsp 3/8 plott and 3/8 cur. My Ginger gyp is the momma to em and she’s outta some hog/cattle dogs. The dad, Ninja, is 1/2 gsp 1/2 plott and is 1/2 brother to my old Eli dog I got killed few yrs ago. Their momma Radar, full plott, threw some jam up hog dogs no matter what she was crossed to. She was a proven reproduced. Ninja seems to be falling in her footsteps too. My buddy has crossed him to another gyp too and those young dogs are doing good too. My plans are to later on cross some dogs to have the Radar bloodline on both top and bottom. Wish I had more pups to pass along but all have been spoken for.

Good fresh clean bedding for these soup hounds. They’re growing! Only one black/brindle trim one I believe. The rest are brindles or walker looking. Two of the walker looking ones are brindling out as well. So I guess time will tell if the rest do it too. I have one runt that is a good pup just smaller and one runt that just keeps hanging on. I know what I should do but my conscience won’t let me. Getting soft in my old age I guess. He is definitely inferior and one day I say oh he’ll be gone in a couple days and then he isn’t. These chow hounds are 7 weeks old today. They are growing and they are changing on a daily basis. I don’t believe any of the black and white ones are going to be black and white. They are all starting to brindle out. The other three are two brindle females and and one black male with brindle trim. The border collie genes started strong but they are fading fast lol.

Lol Reuben he’s full to the brim with personality. He’s one of my favorites in every way except build. He’s more like his daddy than I care for in that sense, too much body. I prefer the faster, racier make. He’s more of the bruiser type.

Tdog what are they?

They are this old family of dogs I’ve been hunting for 25 years. They are cat/walker with a little of the old doughbelly blood way back.

I know it is just a picture and is very little to go on but the pup by the barrel in the first pictures "posture" looks a little extra alpha for his age and he might require a little extra discipline to curb growly behavior, what do you think?

Just a couple pictures of these chow hounds. They are growing and at the age now that I really like watching them. The grown gyp is Ava and she is a half sister to these pups. It’s funny how these pups brindled and continue to brindle more and more. The brindle ring neck is my nephews pick and he looked black and white at birth. The other black and white ones have brindle markings too. I think my pick (Dolly), is gonna have a a brindle head and markings too. She already has a brindle leg and you can see it in her head in person. The dark brindle female looked black for the first 3 or 4 weeks of her life too. I’m pleased so far with the litter except for the biggest brindle female. She’s definitely one of the best looking pups but she just isn’t my type in her ways. She’s a goosey type pup a lot of times. More of a follower than a leader and the last to figure things out. The brindle  runt female isn’t the looker the others are build wise, just average, but she sure acts right. I’m in love with Dolly, guess I just have a weakness for a gal named Dolly lol. I sure hope this one will always love me too.

That's a really nice litter of pups t-dog, you're bound to have some doers in there.

Looking good T dog. What is the gyp standing over them. She is pretty sharp looking.

Cajun that’s my Ava female out of my Raylynn gyp. They are all pretty line bred back to this family of dogs of mine, basically cat/treeing walker with a splash way back of doughbelly blood. Ava is super fast and as snakey as  snake through the brush. She isn’t perfect but she’s a heap of fun to me. Size and build wise she is perfect for me and the color of her wrapper is fine with me too.

Picked up the sister to a pair of dogs I had. 1/2 Plott 1/2 Curr.The whole litter turned out pretty solid. They also turned out real gritty and this is the only one still alive.

She was give to to a friend and he had her as a house dog. His wife finally got tired of her digging out, killing cats and squirrels, and always wanting to leave the yard.

She’s about 6 yr old now. I don’t know if she’ll hunt, but i dang sure want to get her bred. I have a son to her brother.

Bob "bigo" that is a good looking litter of puppies, Tommy had called me and said he had bred her to Cooper and she'd had'em, actually I think way back I had suggested he get with you and breed her to Cooper . Hope they do you'all a good job. I had a small litter here out of Cooper's half brother I call Wynn, "he is out of Odie and our old Zip female that was a sister to Judas , Spade and those dogs" they aren't old enough to take yet but look and act good. Their mother is a black with yellow trim female here we call Tally, she was out of Spade and Shy, they were both out of Cowboy.

Let a friend take my old gyp to raise a litter of pups out of another buddies dog who has always had a good line of catch dogs. This pup is almost the same cross as the last one. The pup with white on his nose was one I raised 2 years ago and ended up getting killed. That was Rex. I call this one Dagger   His mother is a half sister to Rex’s mother. You can sure tell they are related.

Sure got high hopes for these two. They are belly mates. It’s almost scary how good they work together they are now 3 months and some change. They bay everything that moves and is ranging out more and more each time I turn them out.

My brother in law own him I only hunted with him 2 since he had him but those 2 hunts he was his lead dog twisted was more advanced as a pup but don’t get me wrong boots hunt just like him and was more gritty than twisted..

That’s another plus being real similar, sounds like consistency.

FINALLY got another litter off my crank dog (didn’t think he could still swing it he’ll be 10 end of February and only dog left alive out of him is 8) on paper these dogs ought to be real nice, crickett’s mom is same blood as my dogs her dad is another nice old line here in ETX so these pups are a half outcross to everything else in the yard so gives me more breathing room to start tightening everything back up

Thanks m-e-s, I like em so far, much more than they like each other. I have never had a litter with just two pups. I don’t know if that had anything to do with it, not having more to redirect on and play with. But, if these two aren’t piled on top of each other sleeping, they are fighting. I think they hate each other. I even done had start feeding em separately. Lol

These three I placed with very close buddies the male is coming along very nicely and one gyp has been hunted once so far and her first trip took a track out 8-900 yards never amounted to anything but sure was proud of her and the other gyp has been started in the pen but he’s planning on putting her in the woods after deer season so

Looks like it’s getting close too a year or so on this post so how did all these recent litters turn out!! I kept 2 females out my litter that have sure earning there feed and stacking hogs behind them

Well the litter off crank 3-5 are still kicking and making fine dogs!
And the 3 butterballs aren’t so round anymore they just turned two and I can’t say anything bad about them they’ve sure turned on!

I just picked up my pup today from a buddy. His momma is Outlaws grandma which makes Deputy Dawgs Moon gyp an aunt to him. His daddy is a littermate to my Ava gyp. They are more closely related than that but I won’t bore y’all with all that. His name is King. He came by the name a couple of ways. One, this particular buddy is always telling me that I’m his hero and I always tell him nah, “your the King”. Second, this pups daddy is named Ken. Ken is the name I gave him before Kyle (Barbie) and Ben King picked him up as a weanling. I just combined their names lol. So coming from the King and the Kings, I figured it appropriate. He’s gonna be a looker one day. Reba his momma on the left and Ava on the right. They are first cousins for the sake of simplicity. Reba doesn’t get used much. About the time I was going to start hauling her, she got spider bit on her front foot. It blew up quick and swole up so bad that it literally dislocated her toes. The big pad in the center of the foot literally rotted out even on super strong antibiotics and being soaked and scrubbed twice a day. Her siblings are really nice dogs and she hunts and works hard until that foot gets soar and then you have to put her up. I have really high hopes for ole King.

You’re correct, it’s too common. I’ve seen several people I wanted lock in the kennel their dogs were in or put them on the chain their dog was on and let them drink the same green slime water with no shade and only be fed whenever the person felt like it. I’d like to them to the woods and kick them out and tell to go find me a hog and if they didn’t or they didn’t do it the way I wanted them to then do the ultimate cull. Don’t give them the consideration that they are sick, or weak, cut up and beat up, dehydrated, malnourished, or no feet because the urine and feces have blistered them so bad. Yeah it gets to me too!

I can’t say 100% that a spider bite is what it was. It was an educated guess. The vet I had look at it said absolutely there wasn’t anything in it and him and my buddy both said that it looked identical to what they had seen in a couple of their greyhounds and that those were spider bites. Freak deal, and like we all know, it only happens to the good ones.

Haha not yet but they hunt a tit and a feed bowl about as good as you can ask. Eating me out of house and home. 2 gyps and pups killed 50 lbs in under a week.

This one of 3 pups I’m raising from my litter out limpy x rose showed the 3 a hog yesterday and they love it will get pics of them today they be 6 months the 26 very pleased how these pups are coming out showing no fear if they can hunt like there parents or better then I’ll call it a success lol…

T-dog really liking this litter so far these 3 I got have no fear the pressure water doesn’t even scare them they start attacking it yesterday before my buddy got me the hogs the runt saw my house cat he followed it under the house and wouldn’t leave he never barked but he never came to me when I called him either he was the first pup I turned out and all he did was catch he’s half the size of his siblings but he has a set of nuts on him he’s been fighting all his life can’t wait till they turn a year

And my litter of apbt pups are growing they be 4 weeks old tomorrow and I’m starting to feed them can food can’t wait till they get bigger

I appreciate the good words. They 6ish months old now and at that ugly gangly growing stage. Everything in the litter is on its way to becoming a working dog except the one I said I should have culled and not made the momma raise since the beginning. I think she’ll still make a dog but some in this line haven’t turned on until later in life and I believe she’s going to fall in suit with that theory but I was more interested in the % of to how many work and how many are culls even though I may never make that cross again as it was truly to replenish my cuz as this litter was more bred towards the cow and that was our deal when I took the bitch from him. The only way I would run it back is to make sure the consistency is there.

I can’t get the tap a talk app to work but somehow got this thread open! but we’re still alive and kicking over here catching a few hogs when the lord blesses us, last years crop is doing good, so started getting some on the ground for next year see if we can’t keep these dogs around another couple decades
