Title: Dog names Post by: Cajun on February 16, 2021, 06:40:54 pm How do y'all come up with your dog names? It varies with me. In the old days I would try to pick out a really cool name and half the time the dog never made it to my standards. I really hate to waste a good name on a sorry dog. I followed the country music theme for a while with Reba, Shania, Willie, Hank etc. Waited a long time to get Maltese Plott that I could call Blue and I have had Red, Yellow, Brownie and Blackie. When I kept pairs I had a Jed and Alley Mae, Jack and Jill. Finally I started naming my females after my X girlfriends and had a good supply of them until my better half told me that was not going to work. Told her if she wasnt careful her name might be next on the list. Probably the best way is to make them earn it. Once you know they are going to make it then give them a name that fits them.

Maybe I will name the next one Biden. That way when he lies and don’t become nuthin I’ll be use to it and it won’t shock me Lol

Title: Re: Dog names Post by: BA-IV on February 16, 2021, 07:12:59 pm I’ve tried it all, and the good names never make it hardly. Now I either let the kids, or the wife come up with something til it sounds right. I use to have a list if I thought one was good, I’d write it down. Nowadays I try and let the dog name themselves with a quirk, color, attitude, or something like that.
I’m not superstitious, maybe ALIL-stitious, but wouldn’t ever name a dog after one I’ve culled and wasted a name on, but may have to change that I’m running low on names ;D Title: Re: Dog names Post by: t-dog on February 16, 2021, 07:39:58 pm I’ve tried the country greats, western movie stars, Greek Gods, Viking warriors, and now I keep it simple. The daddy to my puppies is named Uno because he has one white foot. Another young dog is Dos because he has 2 white feet.

I think if you put that on a dog your dreams never line up. I just kinda name them how they act or look so I tend to name them later on. I had a bulldog yrs ago was slow as molasses so I named her Polky cuz she was so dang slow but one hell of a dog. I had one yrs ago we named hook cuz I took him fishing as a pup and he ate the hook with the bait on it.

Some will come instantly and some take a year or two. It concerns my better half, that I have a list on my phone of good dog names I’ve come up with over the years but I can’t come up with names for our future children and I have my next two dozen litters named. Hahahaha
On the country music topic, my grandpa always had shop dogs at his mechanic shop, he use to always name his males either Willie or Waylon. The females were always named Candy or Lucy not too sure where he came up with the name for the gyps but he has always stuck true to those 4 names. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
