Coming home to the damage that Ida did, this is the first chance I have had to post our hunt. Ida came in on Sunday and I got home on the Weds. following. If their training season would have lasted another week I would have stayed for that.
Went up there with soft dogs and hunted with Dan and Jonah Place. Treed some with those guys and treed and bayed some with my dogs.
Hank had one bayed on the ground over a hour before I got in to him and caught him. Last day ran a lil guy all over the country and after 3 1/2 hours the dogs treed him. Big shout out to Dan and Jonah for having me up. Had a blast.

I noticed that fella wearing a hooded sweat shirt, made me kinda jealous. The dogs looked hard and tight in the pics. If your the freeze branding your dogs, are you using liquid nitrogen or dry ice and how long do you hold it on? I do mine and I use liquid nitrogen. Looks like y’all had a good time.

When I got up there the lows were low to mid 50's every morning with a high of 80-85. Last two days he lows were 42-44 degrees with highs of around 70. Just the weather alone made me not want to come back south.
I had those dogs on the starvation fitness program so they would be able to run when I got up there. They got fat over the summer. I ran the dogs for nine days straight. Hank, Yellow and Showtime ran everyday and alternated my other dogs every other day. One bear we ran for aboyt 18 miles or so. Ole Amber could hardly get up for 3 days. lol
I had a friend freeze brand my dogs and he used dry ice. I need to get a few more freeze branded.
Greg Michels in the first pic. is 82 years of age and still making trees.

That’s says a whole lot about a whole lot running those dogs that much and out of shape. Sounds like Mr. Michels is a heck of man. It’s been a little cooler at night here and last week it lasted a little longer into the morning. It wasn’t a lot but it was noticeable and enough that the dogs appreciated it too.

Thanks NLA! I’ve never used dry ice. I need to do some dogs and it’s getting harder to get liquid nitrogen.

Cracker, I was not going to waste one day of that weather. Men like Greg Michels, Tom Telford, a few others and now I'll add WOW to the list that still have the passion to watch dogs work are a inspiration to me. They have lived in the Golden years of dog hunting and I am afraid our younger generation will not get to see it. We are losing places every year to hoghunt and land that is being shut down to doghunters.

Cajun I’m assuming that’s pretty hilly country. Does it take much adjustment for the dogs?

Lol.  I don’t know about the dogs but I know the last time I was deer hunting that country in Richland and Vernon county. I sure wasn’t adjusting to it.  Those hills is mountains in my book.  I had to hold on to trees to climb up em and prop up against em so I didn’t roll down.  Hehe

WOW lol Me too. You can just send that smoked salmon over my way. lol T dog, pretty woods. Slightly rolling hills where we were and mostly open woods. With the cooler temps. those dogs thought they were in heaven. I went to Va. bearhunting about 5 years or so ago and Andy and I swore we were never going back to the Mtns. Straight up and down anbd the dogs always seemed to get treed on the opposite Mtn. They do have some cutover that they call the slash. It is thick but hardly any briars like we have them.

I go to Tn about every year to hog hunt and the guys I hunt with have come down here to Fl. They dont like the swamps and I can live without climbing up the mountains!

Nice pics.

Great pictures…I’m ready for some of that cooler weather myself.  I ended up cancelling my trip to Wisconsin this year to run bear, so I sent that male dog back to Joe to finish out the season and see how he does on bear.

He was a pup off the Rube and X litter.
