EAST TEXAS HOG DOGGERS FORUM

Well we made a run this morning. We got on a bad dude 1st thing. Originally had two dogs baying it when the boys called me told. I was scouting when they called. I like to do that because I think it helps you see hog sign and habits that you don’t see sitting and waiting. The dogs had split originally and 2 were 6-700 one way and 2 were the same the opposite way. I had a young dog on the ground that only had about 4-6 hunts on him but was growing leaps and bounds with confidence every hunt. He was a dog Red Nose bred and raised out of 2 sure enough nice dogs he had, non hog dogs. I heard his huge hound mouth when he got there and shortly after that I heard what sounded like the hog being engaged. As I was getting there the young dog came to me and he was beyond wrecked. He didn’t make unfortunately. Man it hurt my heart I ain’t gonna lie. I was really liking this little dog and his want to. I knew he was fixing to get to a point where he was going to have to get backed up. I wish that’s what had happened. This is Cash and his first hog that he started and finished on his own the last time I hunted him.

Man I sure hate it for u man.  It’ll always happen to the super stars it seems like.  Like they don’t get a chance to go to kindergarten man to learn abc they got sent to college and they ain’t ready for that.    Tough hit to take cause it ain’t easy to have that potential get taken away.

I agree, great looking dog! I’m a sucker for that saddle back and them long ears! He sure looks like he had the gear to run with em for the long haul...just from the pic I’d bet he wasn’t a track star burn em up but burn out but a real long haul type dude. Sorry for your loss.

Dang it Thomas, sorry to hear that.

Ole cash was well bred. His daddy was a really nice McDuffie leopard cur and his momma is half Mike Kemp and half Al Lutrel, red nose says they refer to them as west coast cat bred. I was originally worried that he might be really open on track because I like quieter dogs. Fast tracking dogs can give a little and it doesn’t bother me as much. He was quiet so far. The shoat in the picture with him he gave some mouth on but it was as hot as hot gets and he had him bayed in 500 or so yards and then caught. It wasn’t every step either. I would say once every 40 or 50 yards. Like I say, it sucks but it happens to us all sooner or later and it doesn’t matter how good a dog person you are. It’s a hazardous occupation that the dogs love. I can only think of one better way to go out.

That sucks. Sorry for the loss. The qyp i got from Rednose has made a dog.. She is silent untill looking at a hog but trashy as can be. Goes out yonder !

That’s good that she turned out. Trashy is aggravating but not as aggravating as no drive lol. Good thing you’re young and full of energy.
