Title: Short little hunt
Post by: t-dog on December 16, 2022, 09:42:26 am
The nephew and I made a little trip yesterday. We cast his 3 and my 3 and they were looking at hogs within 5-10 minutes. The hog jumped up and ran almost immediately. They would get it stopped and within 30 seconds it would break. We finally got one shut down and bayed. It broke as we were getting up close. Her mistake, they stretched her little 120 pound butt. We loaded the dogs even though they were really wanting to leave. We went to the other end of the property and cast again and the three young dogs went one way and the older ones went another. The youngins came bayed about 7-800 yards from us. The old dogs tried to be slick and go back where we caught the first one. We toned them back and when they got within ear shot of the young dogs went to them. After about an hour of baying we got up to them and they had one of those 150-60 pound boars that thought he was 250 with those dog cutting teeth about an inch or so long. We smoked him and heck before we finished getting a picture of him, the dogs were bayed again at about 350. We drove up a little too close, which is rarely a possibility, and caused it to break. He made it about 75 yards and they stretched him, about 100 pound boar hog. It wasn’t a high volume hunt but it was good work for the dogs. I was pretty happy with Hope. She got snake bit. I noticed it when I loaded her after the first hog. She never checked up and she’s really baying like she likes it. I took a few photos of the biggest boar just to show Maverick he isn’t the only one that could get fancy poses.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20221216/64e0f9a32d123c939d9e3f086acd326f.jpg)
I told him to look to his right(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20221216/9fe141ad51700323e633938563773a0c.jpg)
Then I told him to look to his left(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20221216/789ba84c3c48bbbe5c8fde7652d08ff4.jpg)
Then I told him and Loki to take one together. They were still mad at each other and wanted to fight. I said well if you can’t get along just don’t look at each other!

Another good hunt. You guys have been stayin in em lately. Dogs rolling over from bay to bay is cool stuff.

Do you give your dogs anything for snake bites? I have used Benadryl or Prednisone. Both seemed to work well.

Thought I replied to you shotgun but I must not have. She’s a small gyp so I gave her 1 1/2 cc of dex. You couldn’t hardly tell she’d been bitten lol he next day and no swelling at all today.
