I've thought about throwing one in the group. They are fast as lightning. I'd hope putting one in the group it would slow a runner down...

I would go for somethin more like a stag hound unless your wantin some smaller dogs. whippets and Italians and just plain ol greyhound got skin like tp. I think a whippet crossed with some sort of terrier would be fun to watch though  ;D

my old #1 hog dog was a whippetXcatahoula but she cut her paw and is now a shorter range dog at night but during the daytime shes all over like a bat out of hell, extremely obedient too. awesome dog, she had pups 4 weeks ago too, had 12!!! but 2 died at birth but other 10 look healthy so i hope they turn out like her. fast, smart, catches up to hogs running thru fields at full speed and she comes up from the rear with grit to slow it down or catches 100lb'ers no prob yet still isnt stupid gritty, only minor nicks and burrs on her and never had a full out gash to sew up on her so very smart in my opinion. rare find but good dogs but i hear crosses are the way to go. just my 2cents, lemme know if youd like to hear anything else. -lawson

PS: here's a few pix of her

(http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb378/lawsondawg/sabinal002.jpg) old hunt w/ lion&boarhunter, 1st hog of the night but shes always at the rear of the hogs that wind up cutting, i think 2 or 3 other dogs in that pile got pretty good cuts from that little sucker

If you find a whippet, I'd breed it to a stockier built dog for sure to give it a little bulk, full blooded whippets are rather brittle in appearance yet very smart and speedy suckers! I really like the catahoula thrown in the mix but that was just a stroke of luck finding that gyp and am very glad i did.  Even still, with catahoulas ranging in size quite a bit w/ different bloodlines and such, they are overall considered to be a fairly hefty/muscular breed, lets call 50lbs+- an average weight for most cats just for this comment's sake.  My point i guess is that even when crossed to a CAT, they can still be quite petite, my WHIPxCAT is still a very small in "bulk" when compared to my cur gyp and other friend's curs so i dont really know what to suggest crossing a whippet with for best results in getting some bulk while still keeping the leggy speed factor of the whippet.  I like her smaller, sleeker, leggier body because shes fast as hell and can get thru brush and fences like its not even there and shes still plenty gritty yet stays smart about it, so im very anxious to see how her pups come out. I bred her to a black&tanXrunning walker out of maurice chamber's old stock so technically theyll be 1/4 of each: CAT,Whippet, Black&Tan, and walker.... odd combo if ive ever heard of one!  ???  As for greyhounds, "down-unda' " in auzzie land they have bred bulldogs to greyhounds and some of them look beefcake and aparantly do very well! google "bullygreys" and you should pick up on some sites that show some examples of that cross, they look like a greyhound on steroids! That would be worth a shot for sure and if you do make a bully-grey litter, I WANT ONE haha! here in the next few weeks/months ill keep you posted on how the pups out of my gyp turn out with that bit of hound in them but definitely keep me updated on your ideas and breedings, i think its worth a dive into either way you go. good luck and stay in touch  -Lawson

P.S.: Heres a link i had stored on my favorites, shines some light on this topic!  http://huntingpigdog.com/index.php?page=bullgreys (http://huntingpigdog.com/index.php?page=bullgreys)

I got a greyhound Gyp in with one of my male pits hopefully I will have sum pups some time but she doesn't seen to wanna come in heat , this greyhound Gyp hates a hog !!! But I donno how tough her legs are they are small so I hope the pit will throw sum bone in to the pups an maybe there legs will be a lil more tough
If I do get some pups y'all can have one if y'all want I just want 2 of them ,

If it turns out she is spayed, I might know someone that would be interested in her... That same person would probably be interested in her after you get your pups out of her. ;)

Let me know if you decide to part with her.
