Would you guys care to elaborate about this family of dogs? Traits, faults, or anything in general. I'd like to learn more about these dogs, anything you can offer is appreciated.

From what I have read there nearly impossible to trash break but doesn't matter cuz will obliterate skunks, coons, etc. And keep moving then catch hog and hang on ear as fashion accessories

Hollow point . I have 2 jag/ pointer crosses that are a year old this month. Both pups are starting to wind off the box. The both cast hunt. They have a ton of hunt in them. My male run one this past weekend for just over a mile with a pack of dogs on the tail end of the hog. One thing I have noticed is he is becoming a little open while running the hog. We had the hog run pasted us and he was yelping as he ran passed. My female has struck 2 hogs solo but I think she tried them and they broke and she was alone. So we lost them. I also have a jag/plott gyp that 3 months old and she bayed a 20 pounder that we had tied to a tree yesterday. I have 2 jag/Cur crosses that are 7 weeks old. I hope to use all the jags as a pack because their size is the only issue I see with them. Hard for them to keep a big hog bayed if by themselves. They have the hunt in them and will try anything. They are fearless. Hope this helps a little bit on the breed.

What about bottom? Can they run a hog for 3-6 hours on a runner?

Yes, I've hunted with several that can hang with the big dogs all day long.

I be I wouldn't have thought them little legs could keep with a running hound

If I were to own a jag it would be one of this blood line, yes its true they have a hi game drive they will run lots of critters but the ones I've been around mainly have a issue with deer and yes they can be kept under control with a good supply of hogs and a shock collar and they have more gas in the tank than a lot of cur dogs I've hunted with.they have no problem hunting 6 or more hours when in shape.

A Jagd that's in shape can run all day. My Joey dog is 16lbs and will get a hold of the nut sack and sit a boar down. Aint much a boar can do after that

Run a hog 4-6hrs!! Forget that!! If my dogs cannot stop it before then, I will get new dogs that can stop hogs NOW!!

The only problem with them are their size in my eyes. Where I hunt is real wet and they would be swimming more then running! Need a dog with some legs where I am at to run through the water that's always knee high to thigh high in a lot of the land down here in Florida this time of year.

No problem Hollowpoint.
TazD. I agree with you boss. Lots of water at your place. We can't wait to start running our Florida curs you gave us brother.

Mankinb. Thanks for your 2 cents. I will take it to the bank and deposit it after the holiday.
Have a great holiday everyone.

I agree with the first part. If it takes 4-6hrs to stop a hog, you need new dogs.

2nd part, Knee to Thigh high water on a man means ANY dog will be doing lots of swimming.

PS: Jagds have webbed feet

For the ones that say people need new dogs if they have to run one 4-6 hours...I'd like this explained to me.

The two we have here, will keep going and going and going if need be. They have no off switch when hunting, at least the ones we've been feeding. They always are the hardest to catch and get loaded up, never wanting to stop doing what they're doing. We have marsh and swampland everywhere over here and they've done just fine mobility wise. In fact, I've had medium/average size dogs get more slowed down in the marsh than the little guys. They're so light, they almost seem to glide over the terrain at times.

Come down to piney woods of east texas and you ll see why they run 4-6 hours.

In big timber country where I am, if you don't have a dog that will stick to a hog for a few hours, your not going to kill many hogs in this country. We are 100% timber and these hogs love to run. Been many people with many different types of self claimed world class dogs come here only to leave empty handed.

I hunt with a guy that has some jadg and jadg cross dogs. Gamy as ever but none of them ever gas out. I'm not gona say they stay right there with the running hounds, but they sure aren't far behind. Can go all day every day that I've seen out of them.

Biggest issue I've seen with his are the dog aggression. Their fearless and will jump on an 80lb curr.

I guess he runs cuz he wants to, but if I had to guess he's had a few run ins with cur dogs or hounds that thought were to rough or didn't have enough bottom to finish the job.

If you ain't gotta dog that will stick with one, you won't see many bays in the piney woods.

If they won't run him atleast 3 hours I would be looking to get me some new dogs that going home empty handed ain't to fun because of a lazy dog the only problems I see with them is when they get cut it's usually almost in half and a lot of times fatal but that's just from what I have seen I've hunted with quiet a few jags and always like the Dixie land the best and was considering getting one later on but only a Dixie land and was just curious if anyone kept up what Scott Alls had going. I don't want a jag right now as I got a few young dogs that need a little time but maybe next year would like to add one or two to the pack
