 Need a little advice, I have a litter of pups, 4 weeks old today. This is the mama dogs second litter and when they get teeth she stops feeding them almost completely. I lost all of the pups that I kept out of previous litter to Parvo, I bought Parvo only vaccine good for 6 week and up healthy dogs. I am gonna start feeding them today and I am nervous about giving them the vaccine. Has anyone on here used this with young puppies?

at 7 weeks or so I give the 8 in 1 vaccine that includes parvo and corona virus in that vaccine...never lost any pups since the mid 1980's...give another 3 weeks later and that should be enough...

I wouldn't give it to them that young... I've been giving all mine at 7, 10 and 13 weeks.

  just a little mo info .   when do you start supplementing the litter with puppy gruel [ moistened puppy food ]  ?  when do you clip the pups toe nails for the first time ?  there teeth and nails are EXTREEMLY SHARP  and when you don't start feeding and neglect trimming the nails the pups ATTACK AND CLAW  their way into the gyps udders . this is usually the reason that a gyp starts nipping and snapping at the pups before weening time [ udder butter ] on the gyp helps to soothe and heal tender udders as well during the 2 to 6 week feeding period when the teeth and nails start really growing .
 
  as for the shots I as well start with the shots around 6 to 7 weeks plus a coccidian preventive like [ sulmet ] a lot of  [ parvo ] pups actually die from several other viruses that have the same symptoms as parvo  . plus they really need a combo vaccine at that early of an age there is still a lot of distemper in the usa . it has taken out a lot of raccoons in texas this year  .     good luck with your litter hope all turns out well  .

I've given 5 in 1 vaccines to six week old healthy pups before. No problems. I will only give a 8 in 1 (now 9 in 1) to pups 8 weeks and over though.

i do the same,you dont want to over load the pups immune system with a 7/8/9 n1 shots recomended by vaccine manufacturer also.use high titer shots -duramune max 5 is a good one/spectra 5 good one too,not all vaccines are hi quality,some will just give you a false since of security.
.we vaccinate our bitches with hi titer shot before they come into heat if we plan on breeding so they pass immunity to the pups.

What is the ninth ingredient that they added to the 8 in one & what does it prevent?
  Also, I heard there was a new virus out in Ohio that has spread to Wisc.

I used to give three 8 in 1 shots to the pups...cut down to 2 over the years and then I cut down to 1 on some pups to see what happened...and 1 vaccine is sufficient but I give 2...

   I've wondered the same Cajun but haven't seen any 9in ones to look at .

They added a new strain of Lepto to the mix

Thanks for all the help! I will clip the toe nails tomorrow. I tried puppy food today w/ milk replacement and they couldn't figure out how to eat it. The vaccine I ordered is Pfizer Vangaurd Parvovirus Vaccine but I will cross my fingers and wait till they are 6 weeks old. Once again Thanks!

Keeping it simple...soak the dog food in cow milk or replacement and refrigerate...fine tune with milk or replacement at feeding time and warm up and feed...at that time prep next meal...so it will be ready for next meal. ..I keep it simple and effective...training the same way...use hunger as an opportunity to train as well...

I've had pups get parvo after 2 rounds, could've been a bad shot. I don't know, but I give atleast 3 rounds now.

do the vaccines you use on your pups include coronavirus?

Yes sir, that's what I was thinking to at first, but vet tested positive for parvo

Anybody ever tried the neopar brand of parvo prevention, it vaccinates against just parvo but seems to be pretty strong vaccine, seems if a fella was having trouble raising pups he might would try that
