Title: Progress on our pit program
Post by: Myles Man on June 07, 2017, 01:47:10 pm
Things have been going good for us. Bob and I have been working together to keep the pit program going in the right  direction.  We are doing our best to secure the future generations of catch dogs.  So far we are real happy with the outcome. These  proven  game bred genetics work well for us and our packs. The consistent trait George produces are mostly calm, mellow pups. He has passed down the brain power in many ways as well, showing lots of promise. He's a great producer.

Just as a reference point, George is over 10 years old and has caught over a thousand hogs in his career. Four years ago Bob purchased a 4 month old female named Rose. He put her in the woods and she was a natural. Very high driven and very energetic. I always referred to her as a lil torpedo. She had some issues with being a fireball in the yard. Thankfully her genetics were proven in the woods and she's a big part of our foundation. George and Rose produced 2 litters within an 18 month timeframe.

From the first litter, Bob kept Choco, the only Chocolate male out of 8 pups. I got my pick at the females and chose Lola. That litter set us up to where we are today. It's been great opportunity and we are happy with Choco and Lola as proven catch dogs.

The pedigree has good percentages of Chinaman/Frisco. We intend to keep it tight until we see the need to outcross. Probably  in a couple years we will have an outcross, but it will still be aimed towards a Garner pedigree.

September of 2016 we bred Lola back to her daddy George. She had a litter of 10 pups, 5 males and 5 females. The pups are now 7 months old and everyone seems to be satisfied.

We've got some great plans for the future to help secure more generations of great catch dogs.

My keeper from the GeorgexLola breeding  is Raina. She shows a lot of potential and this fall will be her time to team up with her momma in the woods. Her prey drive gets intense when we are messin around the yard....I've got to keep a close eye on them and make sure they don't "misunderstand" each other.

It's been a fun process and I just want to share the progress we have accomplished over the past few years. The future looks good and Lord willin we will keep breeding the best to best. Hopefully bless other working homes in need of a well bred pit from proven catch dogs.

George and Lola

good deal...nice looking dogs and pups...I like the idea that someone is selectively breeding bulldogs for catch dogs...one day I might want a pup and it would have to be one of the calm ones...believe it or not but nowadays  there are many that won't catch...

Great looking dogs and pups.

I think that doubling up on that male dog is going to prove to be a great move. He is a nice dog and I think it will give you dogs that will not be as naturally hot since you bred away from the gamebred side.

Keep us posted on how that litter turns out.

I think you are on the right track.  I hope you are as I am doing about the same thing.

You ever shipped any pups ? Those are some really nice looking digs. I had a heavy frisco bred male was a great catch dog not many folks around these parts with dogs like that.

Heck yea y'all, we are super happy with the outcome. We are definitely on the right track,

We have had dogs shipped in a few states, shipping isn't a big deal at all.

Finding folks who know and understand the breed is the hard part

Looking good Myles! I'd definitely say you're on the right track... calm is good and fine in a CD along with a level head, but personally I want them to be a bit hot and wild as well. Trying to find that easy medium is the hard part. Good luck on the future breeding. I'll be looking forward to keeping up with these dogs.

Lola has her moments, she aint too bad though.

These dogs definitely do not know how to loose at a yard war...close eye on them at all times is key, I'm just so impressed on how they are in the woods or dog box, they stay focused on their job and listen so good,

Myles those are great pics - and a great read even though im a part in all this breeding lol - george is getting old - im sure glad we bred him back and it stuck - it looks like hes starting to go blind in one eye - hes happy and thats all that matters to me at this point - a retired beast - cant beat that in this line of work

Solely for the purpose of keeping a record of our progress, I'm going to have to repost this topic.

All my pictures are from my  Photo bucket app and they are no longer available for 3rd party sharing....if I want to use them as my primary source on here, I'd have to pay them $399.99 every year to be able to use "3rd party image hosting"

Now I need to learn how to use tapatalk....

Photo bucket looks to be a Huge rip off. Tapatalk is the only way.
