Lot of different breeds in him.    Alaunt is what type of dog I would consider him.

Thank you and thank yall.        I'm using young dogs that are just coming of age to start going.   Not really mature or filled out yet physically and don't have the confidence and metal yet to catch their own at this stage so you'll see dogs in the picture that are not doing a hole lot of good yet but, they are in amongst it and enjoying it.         Let my mature dogs go for a good penny do to my confidence in the new generation that my red dog Tuff is carrying.   He too is a few months shy of his 2nd birthday.      He is making a very fine pig dog and looking forward to  breeding and developing more like him

Thank you but it would be incorrect to call these dogs long dogs.    A long dog is a cross bred sight hound that really doesn't have any other breeds in it other than sight hounds.    Other than my BoarHounds my dogs are a mixture of 10 or more breeds, 3 of which are sight hound breeds, the rest consisting of non sight hound breeds.         Closest type of dog they are now would be Alaunts.     So your seeing in my pictures either/or, or  both  BoarHounds and Alaunts.

Black streak do your dogs bay at all or just catch when they see one or catch on command etc.? I'm sure you've said  before but I'm not real smart and can't remember

Often times the young dogs will do a mixture of barking and lugging  for the first several weeks to couple of months.   By about 15 months old they are catching their own but not 1 out big boar hard yet.    18 to 20 months they are straight catch 1 out big boar hard.           I have Alaunts and BoarHounds.    Some in each breed and type have no back-up before a year old and others in each progress to this type hardness over the course of several months.        I'm improving the dogs each breeding though.      The Alaunts go back to the long dogs and hairy dogs I started with.      The BoarHounds are a new project taken up in the last couple years prompted by the need to outcross to such a breed.          The BoarHound does everything the Alaunt does but with more drive and passion but because the BoarHound is such an extreme dog, they often are not practical like the Alaunt or my old hairy dogs.    It's a big undertaking to gain the mental controle of such a BoarHound when he is switched on.    It's an awsome sight and very inspiring.   The BoarHound stirs inspiration in me that no other dog does but the very things about them that stir this inspiration makes them so impractical and hard to manage when they are switched on.    I'm not sure yet whether I really want to fully transition BoarHound or just keep them at arms length.      I do so well with the Alaunt.   The Alaunt is perfect for me.   Only problem is I have to create my own and to do that I need good BoarHounds.    Only 2 people in the US breeding actual BoarHounds and one of them is me.     Keeping and developing 1 breed and 1 type is a lot of dogs for someone who only desires 5 dogs tops.    So it's like a revolving door around my place and always working with young dogs and have more dogs than I want.    So you'll see dogs in the pictures now and then that are sometimes 3 dogs on a pig or a dog in a picture that's not lugged up properly.     This is because they are very green and real young.            Hope this helps answere your question about bark and why I can't say none give any bark at any stage in their life and why you will see dogs occasionally in the pictures not lugged up properly or more than 1 or 2 dogs per pig.

How do those bib vests do? I have a dog I keep a full vest on but the marks from hogs are only on the front. I’ve been debating for years about putting him in a shorter vest but haven’t done it....  He’s straight catch and on the ground all the time.

I run a full plate but really don't require more than a chest plate.   Chest plates are what I'll only be getting from now on.
Many factors to be considered for choosing protective gear.    I would need a lot more information before recommending the dog run in less protection.     Your welcome to call  me at (940) 634-0811 and we can talk about all the factors and you can have a more informed prospective as to keep him in the style he is in or go less.            Just in my assumption I'm probably gonna recommend you keep him in what he is in unless your way outside the norm of the predominate style of dogs and usage of them on this forum.

What is a Boarhound?

A boarhound is a great dane but they are hunting danes which possess a willingness to find and catch their own boar and the standerd has their height smaller than what the great dane standerd is.       I can call them great danes but they are much more high drive and energetic than the common pet dane.     So sense they fall squarely within the BoarHound standerd  minus the registration, I call them essentially what they are.    BoarHounds
